It's super windy here right now, and there's already flooding downtown, but it's not started raining. Or, it might have just started raining now, since there is now water on a window. Either that or water is being blown up into our windows from the ocean.
No power outages yet, but the wind is actually rattling the house.

Did not lose power.
My Gazebo wrapped itself around a tree. I took down the fabric top. The metal poles got ripped up and blown away. Some of the metal is destroyed. |

Still have power on my end. Although my area seems mostly flooded thanks to the lakes around here overeflowing.
In other news it seems the shore line is completely (well near completely) destroyed. I guess super storm sandy wasn't a fan of jersey shore. On a serious note, 16 were reported dead, most of them due to falling trees.

MSNBC has a very nice live map of the hurricane, it seems it will just slide across the border of ohio and go north as a tropical storm, wind speeds are down and steady so the worst seems to be over.
Some reports say 18 dead in the US 1 in Canada, Jersey and NY seems to have taken the worst of it. However if the map predictions are accurate, NY seems likely to get a second wind coming from the far west side on the next 24 hours. In that case, Jersey could see some heavy rain still going for the rest of the week. So, keep alert out there fellas... "thankfully" you guys are on the final stretch of a pretty close election, so help should be coming in fast and abundant. |

Well after a night of dodging trees and downed power lines, I'm home safe for a little while. It was a mess out there. Most of the side roads were near unpassable and the highways were full of debris. Lots of places flooded like crazy and NYU Hospital lost power and their backup generator! I heard from a friend who works there that they were hand carrying little nicu babies and patients on ventilators down 9 flights of stairs to hundreds of waiting ambulances below. Amazing.

How New Zealand news reported the story:
Bunch of Americans freaking out followed by some po-faced New Zealanders in America saying things like "The ocean was just like a rough day at Piha" "The winds were strong but not any worse than Auckland winds" and my personal favourite "It was a day when you'd like to stay inside with a movie but if you got shit to do you just gotta get out and do it". Classic. |

Wow I wonder if they saw a before and after shot of the Jersey shoreline for Hurricane/Super Storm Sandy.

As bad as the weather is in the northeast, I'm almost ashamed to share how wonderful it has been here in Texas.
Almost. |

The papers here today said New York was "drowned" and ten people died. Serious Business, man. I kind of overlooked how bad this stuff is. Going to send nice weather thoughts you guys' way now.
