when the PS3 was annouced at 499 US dollars the internet imploded and then exploded and then achieved singularity between Giant Enemy Crab and Riiiiiiiiiiidge Racer... why would this be ok?

It's actually $500 + tax + Gold Subscription so for the "complete" console it'll cost you over $600.

Well I can't defend the Gold subscription crap (BUT HEY AT LEAST I CAN NOW ENJOY HALO 3 AND ASSASSIN'S CREED II FOR FREE, WOOOOO)

Tax...a given, don't even know why this is part of an argument. Everything has tax. Unless you evade taxes, which I recommend.

Well the Internet does have a tendency to do that... But then again, I guess my response to learning that is the exact same. Not that expensive for a device that'll ideally last you years of entertainment [it will break in 3 months].

Not really an arguement, it just irks me that people don't factor in tax when discussing prices of new consoles, because you're making them seem cheaper than they really are.

At this point, I'm just waiting to see how awful the PS4 is.

I suspect it's gonna be pretty awful, given that Sony's just been riding the wave of Microsoft's fuck-ups, and have been going "NO COMMENT" every time someone tries to ask them about DRM or whatever.

PS4 was already confirmed to be a great deal cheaper then the PS3 was at launch. So it's expected price is believed to be around $400 to $450.

Yeah PPlus has been pretty good to me, soooo many free games (sorry, "free" games). I'm so very sad my membership expired while Demon's Souls was free though. It's one I never got a physical disc for, would have loved to grab it.

Your point is valid, and I think you've actually stumbled upon something that is a constant plague for retail workers. Because nobody ever mentions the tax, and execs only say "$499!" all these dudebros assail the poor, soul-crushed retail worker with stuff like "What?! $600?! But the man on the picture tube said $499!" and "Does the new doggie in Call of Duty make the game tax free?"

Confirmed!? Really? Cause that would be a pretty big deal...
