Post Farewell sweat Prince, Block Buster to close all stores in US

Wasn't sure where to post this. So this seemed like an ideal spot since they sold both movies and games (and I think they sold music CDs too).

Quote:
Finally, it's the end of an era. After grasping tightly for any semblance of renewed success Blockbuster has finally decided to shut their doors. This past week the company announced that their online mail service, along with all 300 US retail locations and distributions centers will be shut down early January 2014.

However, the company will still retain the Blockbuster brand for use with digital Dish Network services and they're holding on to their vast library of movies. Well, goodbye Blockbuster.. Thanks for helping a kid experience more games by renting, then he ever could have bought on his own. And Thanks for helping me get started in the Video Game Industry. I'd like to take a moment to reflect on all Blockbuster has done for us...

Oh god this is boring, I'm going to go find something to watch on on Netflix.

» Source: http://www.joystiq.com/2013/11/09/bl...mail-dvd-oper/
I have to say, despite Block Buster's shady past, it's a shame to see them (and many more rental stores) go under. Maybe it was the memories of all the trips I took there as a kid. But I had a lot of fond memories of them. Use to love getting their popcorn too. lol

Farewell Block Buster, I've rented a bunch of games from you and bought a copy of starfox 64 from you. I will remember you for the rest of my days in the physical plane. As a 90s kid, it's a shame to see all these old places close down. But nothing lasts forever and everything comes to an end.

I feel sorry for all the employees who will now be out of a job, just in time for Christmas. The only Blockbuster close to my house (30 miles away), however, had a really lame-ass collection of movies and won't be missed. Maybe I'll check out its closing sales for the few good movies they carried, though.

Default It was wishful thinking to leave a few stores open.

I don't understand why this took so long. The writing was on the wall years and years ago, and it's been at least a couple since Blockbuster stores started dropping dead all over the country.

You know who still rents DVDs in a "walk around, find something you like, bring it to the counter" format? The library.

Your local librarian is lonely, friends. Go visit them and borrow movies so they'll have something to do.

..."Sweat prince?"

...Yeah, that's pretty apt. I've stood in those line ups.

The last Blockbuster I knew of closed two years ago, so...I honestly thought they had closed every single one.

'Twas the Netflix (and various other services) and the Redbox what did them in.

This.

I agree with this post with every ,molecule of my very being. One of the bestest posts of the year I'd say.

And hey, the library also rents books and comics, and free one hour sessions of internet.

And to think some people still think nerd=elitist. Really.

Not sure if you guys have it, but Family Video is still around where I live. Not as wide spread as it used to be but still common enough to find in my township.

I will also issue a warning, if you have any late fees pay them because they will track you down from beyond the grave. Hollywood Video died in like 2010, and just a few months ago I got a collections letter for 7 bucks.

Movie Gallery I've seen around.

But yeah, I mainly went to Hollywood Video and hardly ever went to Blockbuster. Though I do share the sentiment that it was 'cool while it lasted'. Experienced more games by renting them, finding out which ones sucked. Oh well, the era of renting from a store has been over. Goodbye Blockbuster, your legacy shall not be forgotten. At least for a while. (Makes me feel bad for those born in the late 90's.)
