The return of Iga! CV conference at GDC!?

We haven’t heard much from Koji Igarashi in recent years, but the well-known Castlevania producer will hold a session at GDC next month.
The talk is titled “There and Back Again: Koji Igarashi’s Metroidvania Tale”. During his session, attendees will be able to join Igarashi “for an exploration of his experiences and methodology in creating some of the most popular and influential games in the genre over the last 15 years.”

From its beginnings with 8-bit classics like Metroid, through its rebirth in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and several games in the series since — right up to the current generation of hardware — “Metroidvania”-style games’ mix of action/adventure and exploration/backtracking has stood the test of the time. Join long-time Castlevania-producer Koji Igarashi for an exploration of his experiences and methodology in creating some of the most popular and influential games in the genre over the last 15 years.

Not sure if this means he's coming back, but odds are he's going to be announcing the next direction for CV. I wonder if it'll be that PS3/360 CV game that was teased but never released (if it ever got past alpha).

Though honestly, the CV 3D curse needs to be broken. I really hope that CV continues to get 3D titles. So we can finally get more good 3D titles.


Though I wouldn't mind a 2D HD remake/remaster of SotN for PS3/PS4 and Vita either as an anniversary thing. If we are going to continue the metroidvania road, they need to do something new with the direction. With new monster designs. Maybe another Classic style hybrid like OoE. Otherwise we'll be right back where we were before LoS came along.

The Aria of Sorrow series hasn't been visited in a while. Who knows if they're ever going to finally have that Julius Belmont solo game to show the war of 1999?

Iga's shown interests in it but hasn't done much out of fear of it not living up to the hype. Hopefully we'll have more of an answer on that soon.

Koji Igarashi, best known for his work on Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, has left Konami. His last day at the Japanese developer was Saturday, March 15.

The producer departed the studio with intent to open a new development studio.

"I've decided to break out on my own to have the freedom to make the kind of games I really want to make -- the same kind I think fans of my past games want as well," Igarashi told IGN. "Leaving Konami was a big decision, and not one I took lightly – I’ve spent my entire career there, made many friends, and had a lot of great opportunities – but I hope all the gamers and fans who have supported me in the past will join me in being excited about what comes next. Wish me luck!”

At the Game Developers Conference this week, Igarashi is presenting an "exploration of his experiences and methodology in creating some of the most popular and influential games in the genre over the last 15 years."

Igarashi's work appeared on two IGN Editors' favorite games of all time lists this year.
