Status update: downloaded the latest AMD beta drivers. Game actually runs now. Occasional stuttering but I'm running 4GB of RAM, and not the minimum of 6GB, so that's to be expected. Otherwise, the game is running nicely. Might even up the texture quality and see if it doesn't blow up in my face. Baby steps.

Also, to Kim:

I've played the game for all of 10 minutes. I don't know the extent to which the game delves into the ethical issues of the hacking and spying and whatnot, so I'm not really going to touch on what the game does or doesn't do because I have no idea yet. I'm not saying I have high hopes that they touch on the ethical issues of your invasions of privacy, but the hope is there.

Also, "people will attack / try to kill you for X" is a poor reason to have an issue with its inclusion in the game. It's like saying "some people will go out of their way to kill black people in GTA, so black people shouldn't be in the game in the first place." What people do with what's presented to them in a sandbox game is representative of the person playing it, not of the game itself.

If there were no mention of trans people in the game, despite all the other random descriptors in the game, there would be people complaining about Ubi refusing to acknowledge them. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Well here's the story so far from what I've played in the first 10-20 minutes.

The game literally starts you off with the a cinematic of the main guy hacking into a bunch of people's stuff and siphoning their bank accounts. Someone gets upset at your rampant hacking, and orders a hit on you. The hitman fucks up or something and kills your niece. Now you want revenge against whoever ordered the hit.

I'm not saying that answers your question in any way, just giving my abridged version of the intro. Do with that what you will.

Yeah, if the writing has any amount of self-awareness, it should be leading up to a condemnation of the actions he's taking, both before and after the hitman thing.

Of course, I have no way of knowing if that's actually where it's going.

Driving at high speeds is a challenge because my framerate takes a massive dive as my PC struggles to load in what's up ahead. Also did a side mission where I had to chase and take out a car. When their car and mine started to smoke, the game became a slide show. I think I need to accelerate my plans to upgrade my rig. And by upgrade I mean build a new one.

Kim, just FYI, it's kind of offensive to substitute of "Attended a furry convention" for "asexual". I'm assuming it was an accident/unintentional unfortunate implications, but casually translating asexual into "Weirdo nerd" is something a lot of people do that is really not good.

(I'm assuming it was unintentional, so just to explain: In the post, Bells mentioned "asexual" and "judo master", in your post you equated those things to "attended a furry convention", and "judo master". Reads as if you translated asexual into furry convention-goer.)

Kind of leaning towards "No," but I'm willing to be convinced.

I mentioned furry convention cuz I saw a screencap of that and also a set of screencaps where the player distracts a guard by IMing them about meeting up with other furries (wolves) for some fun.

I actually got kinda emotional about that cuz I didn't want the protagonist to break that poor guard's heart.

I also felt like it was important to draw attention to the sort of tone the game sets with some of its descriptors when talking about how it throws forms of queerness in their as well. Like, when the game is loaded with four dozen outdated memes showing up on the highway, I don't think it's throwing "furry" in there because it's "just a thing some people are" but rather to get a cheap giggle out of their target fanbase. Perhaps I'm a pessimist.

I am sorry that my original post read as equating asexual and furry, tho I don't like the attitude of furries being considered weirdo nerds. I have a fursona dat's a liddle black kitty and one of my intimate friends is a doggy and another is a wolfie and another is a kitty and she's my big sis.
