Default What happened with the Ouya?

I remember awhile back we had quite a few members excited and optimistic about it, since it initially launched I've heard nothing about it. Did anyone end up actually getting one? How was it?

It died almost as fast as the Dreamcast partially due to low sales and support. A real shame but the concept behind it is not lost thanks to more SFF rigs becoming a thing soon (Steam Machine).

You can still find them in stores though. At least the last time I checked you could.

I hear they're good for emulators for whatever that's worth.

I heard that during various major gaming events like E3, attempts by Ouya to gain more publicity for the system was hampered by being given the worst venues, being blocked by more prominent attractions/systems.

Much quicker death than the Dreamcast. That lasted 2 years and got a global release (and a lot of good games, I still think the Dreamcast had a better game selection than the OG Xbox). The Ouya never even got outside of North America I think.

It was dead on arrival and whatever hype there was going for it ended as soon as people got it.

There was also essentially no original games for it, the controller was quite shitty (I actually thought I broke an in-store demo controller), and the actual hardware was quite cheaply made.

Dreamcast didn't kill Sega the Saturn did. The Dreamcast just didn't do well enough to make up for the losses.

Well to be specific the combined failure of the Sega CD, 32x, and Saturn is what put Sega in debt. All of which is mainly due to bad marketing and poor communication between Sega Japan and the western branches.

An interview with one of Sega's former marketing team members revealed that The Dreamcast was basically doomed on arrival. Rather it sold well or not it was going to be doomed to a short life due to Sega's rising debt. And since Sega's decision to drop out of the console race was planned since late 1998. It probably still would have been their last platform.

From what I understand, the aluminum casing make the Wi-fi almost unworkable. A lot of people bought them and had new cases installed.

At which point you have...an Android phone without phone stuff.
