Just when you think you've heard the most stupid ass thing ever...
What's with this "celebrating Satan" shit? I am fairly sure that isn't what Halloween was about.

This tells a little about the origin of halloween. I thought it was interesting because it shows halloween in a christian light, as well as the way it is normally celebrated. Growing up, we didn't have halloween. We had a harvest party. If the day was celebrated at all, my parents would have me dress up as a pumpkin or a bible character, and all the church kids would go to the church and eat candy and celebrate the harvest. I was never allowed to trick or treating persay. I also never celebrated 'halloween," this will my first year dressing up as whatever I want, going out with friends, and having a good time. A lot of churches do harvest parties for kids, so I guess in a way, a lot of churches do celebrate halloween. They just take out the scary aspect of it. But yeah, I don't think that people should have a right to tell someone else they can't celebrate halloween. Everyone celebrates differently, just as everyone has different versions of every other holiday. Just because it falls on a day that is set aside as the "lord's day" doesn't mean other people can't celebrate it also. If you have a problem with it, turn off your light and curl up with a good book. Here's another link with some more history. http://gcards.com/halloween/history.html The holiday does have religious background, so anyone saying that the holiday is against the church, is wrong. Oh, and Zweihander, I don't agree with the pulling pranks on people who don't give out candy thing. Maybe that is a tradition, but in my opinion, it's kind of a sucky one. If a person chooses to not celebrate halloween for a religious reason, or any other reason, they should be allowed to do so. Not have there house egged because of it. |

i would just like to add my 2 cents to this discussion
for me halloween is a day that has been decided for any one to go buy candy and spread it around. so instread of buying 200 mini snickers you gave 199 of them away and get 199 other yummy treats.... but i digress on the topic at hand of halloween on sunday if you dont like the idea of having a generally good time at no ones expense then dont participate. If you like good harmless YUMMY fun then do. thats it p.s. have you ever senn those houses that send there kids out for halloween but dont give out candy and theres a mercades in the drive way? those people should be dragged out in the street and beaten like a pinyata, a pinyata with no candy in it so it (cheep punks).

Well...here's my point of view on it:
I live in a pretty church-going neighborhood, and I'm a steady church-goer myself. For those of you wondering...I live in Utah. Yes, I'm one of those. Anyways, Halloween has always been pretty good around here. The church usually has a little "carnival" for the little kids in the area like the Friday before, put on by the young men and women of the area (I still have nightmares about 100 little kids running around with whistles tuned to the pitch that inflicts a headache to any who hear it), Halloween decorations and the like. And, chances are, the majority of trick-or-treaters will come on Saturday? Will it be cause Halloween is the devil's holiday? Nope. The major religion in the area just believes that Sunday should be observed as the Sabbath, and as such, activities such as trick-or-treating shouldn't be done. However, I know that my house will have candy available on both days. However, I am pained to state some of the people in our area are a little more...zealous than others, and will probably refuse to hand out candy on Sunday, even if they did Saturday. I figure it's just little kids wanting candy, they don't care what day it is. I know I went out trick-or-treating, and loved it (except one time like the fourth house I went to scared the heck out of me...but I digress and travel dangerously close to off-topic), so, personally, I'll be expecting t-and-ters on both days. And any little kid dressed up as :bmage: is getting two treats from me.

I'll probably go trick or treating only one day...my plan is to make a bunch of cute Halloween cards or some other goodie and give them people nice enough to give me candy. So far the only idea for a costume though is my black hooded cloak, my giant black angel wings Krylo got me for my birthday, and painting my face and putting glowsticks in the back of my hair with the hood up. Any other ideas are welcome.
Also, WHY ARE YOU PEOPLE TEMPTING ME. ("Have you been living in a cardboard box lately!?" "No, I'm from Utah!" "...Oh, I'm sorry.") |

Me, I'm ether going to go as Willy Wonka (purple tuxedos are hard to find) or the devils advocate (with a suit and horns).

If I dress up I think I'll be going as a goth chick. I jokingly told my room mate that if she could find the clothes to fit me that I'd do it....and it looks like she's succeeding.

I oppose Halloween on Sunday just like I oppose Halloween on Monday-Thursday: School. Its a lot harder to go to school after a great Halloween kegger.
