As I said before, you need an emulator to be able to play it. I use Snes9x v1.43 improvement 9, it's here, first link in the first post. It has some extra features compared to the official version, and if you're not trusting, they even have a link to the source a little further in the first post. Note that the author says that ZSNES won't work with it, I'm not sure if they've fixed that bug in the latest version or not.

I also suggest putting the game in its own folder, as each savestate has its own file in the same location, and it can get cluttered quickly.

Edit: Just to clarify, I did a quick search of the forums, and it appears that it's OK to link to emulators, which is why I did so.
The fileplanet link won't work for me. It just keeps loading but never shows anything. I don't think its my computer so I'm just bringing it up for you. Cuz I wanna try it.

Ok, I've uploaded it to rapidshare. I don't have any experience hosting files for download, which is why I've chosen bad filehosting sites (if I have - like I said, I don't have any experience). Here it is:

http://rapidshare.com/files/3392081/Metroid3.smc.html

Edit: I also uploaded a torrent file to the filespace link, try that if none of the others work.

Edit #2: I just made an account on freewebs, here's the link to the torrent (as I just made the account, I can't host the actual file.) http://www.freewebs.com/magish/SM_Re...20v2.0.torrent

I'm trying out the rapidshare one, and it don't want to download either....

You sure this file's okay? I think it'd just be easier to get ipswin and patch the file to a rom.

Also, if any crap gets on my computer things will catch fire.

Important things.

Edit: Patched file to a rom....didn't work in emu....but worked in other. Annoying piece of crap....

PyrosNine's Uber Non-FFward first impressions:

I was thinking, "well, I've played me some hacked games, some good, some atrocious, and some atrociously hard, so this shouldn't be too different."

Well, I was wrong. For the first time ever, Ridley left because I was low on health. For the first time ever, I got caught on the damned spaceship as it went kablooey, and the first time ever I died before I could save my game. It's hard.

Firstly, normal level design is usually built to encourage exploration and general navigation. The level design here actually has you making some tricky jumps from the get go, and you can't even get back to your ship once you've reached the morphball.

Secondly, this thing starts you out with nothing. Nothing dear god, nothing. You may be thinking "Why Pyros, this is a Metroid game, they never start you out with everything!" But in this case, I mean it. You don't even start out with your beam cannon. You can now only fire tiny pellets about the size of what Mega-man's packing, and they dish out the similar punch.

To get you to understand what this means, let me say this. They have done the equivalent of sending you out to fight off the killer robot, armed with naught but a toasted sausage. You are David with your lame slingshot up against Mecha-Goliath, Cronus, and the Incredible Hulk. There are children in third world countries who are packing more heat than you.

Naturally once you've gotten your two most important items, the game feels fit to shove enemies on you. Enemies take much less damage, meaning that your pathetic weapon will have to hit them all at least 3 or 4 times to kill even the weakest enemy, and you see the Pirates themselves in the shortest debut time ever in any Metroid game. It will take you about 12 shots to kill a pirate with your gun as weakened as it is, and normally destructible blocks now need something higher than your peashooter. The only thing going for it is that this new gun has a greater rate of fire than normal, and will often stun enemies a bit. Space Pirates will often get stuck "guarding" against your weapon until they die if you just keep shooting. You are essentially bitch slapping them to death, so ergo I dubbed it the "B. Slapper"

In terms of puzzles, the excessive plumbing of this new Zebes is largely non solid, with a few exceptions. So the overdose of seeing metal blocks makes you start to ignore them, when some of them are destroyable even with the peashooter, so you have to keep thinking about your surroundings. Some things aren't clearly obvious at first and take some thought: For instance when you walk through an empty Zebes you come into a room and the door turns red behind you. You haven't any missiles so you suppose you should just keep going, but in order to go into the next room you need the morph ball (which you haven't got either)

Eventually you figure out there's a metal box beneath you that's destroyable, which leads to the morph ball, not the missiles. So you take your morph ball, return to the room, and then go into the next room to get 5 measly missiles to get out of there.
Then you wish you hadn't used those missiles, because then the baddies came out and you can't do shitaki to them.

I kept going as best as I could but eventually I met a darker space pirate whom I could not harm, and when I ran like a girl to get away, I passed through three exceptionally deadly spike pits/walls and died. This was after a good 15 min.s of exploration, and I hadn't found a save point yet.

Ouch.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure there's only like 6-10 save points in the entire game, but at least two of them are right before the really hard parts. I wouldn't be able to tell exactly, as I use savestates myself.
Also, I think the filespace site's simply really slow webpage-wise, I'm not sure because beyond that, I don't have any problems with it. Can anyone suggest any other file hosting sites?

Edit: wrong site. -_-

You like to slam yourself onto a bed of nails in your spare time and jab hot pokers through your hands for fun, don't you?

And now for some reason I am getting this mental picture of Samus in a dominatrix outfit whiping me as I am playing this and I don't know how I should feel about how much this game is violating me now....

Nah just a Metroid fanboy who likes hard games. BTW for that Samus is a whore comment, I will cut you.

On the help getting the bombs I asked for earlier, never mind fluked it through aggravation.

I hate Wall Jumps. So, so much. Especially when you need an item to do them, need that item to get out of the room you get the item, and worst of all, have to fight Spore Spawn immediately afterwards.

Nevermind hard, the game's just fucking insane. I was RUNNING from fucking Sidehoppers!

SIDEHOPPERS! THEY HOP FROM SIDE TO SIDE! HOW CAN SUCH A PITIFUL EXISTANCE BE SO DEADLY?!

If I EVER make it out of this pit alive, I rue the day I meet a Desgeega. Or a Ninja Pirate.

Well, if you don't mind a small spoiler:

The first time you meet a ninja pirate, it's underwater. Without the gravity suit. Two at the same time (I'm pretty sure). Killing everything in the room unlocks the doors. It's killer. Literally.

Another small spoiler:

I've only met one enemy so far that was completely immune to missiles - those pure silver wall crawler things that you sometimes meet in Crateria.

And if you think the sidehoppers are hard, wait until you meet the big ones. :gonk: They take more than one SUPER MISSILE!

Edit: And what's a desgeega? I forget the names of some enemies.
