...I don't know... seemed like he delivered every single one of those lines terribly. But then, that's just me.

Terrible? I think that's a bit too far, but it is like the Cullen just read each one from a list, in a monotone version of the Prime voice. Which is likely what he did.
At Comic-Con he put a lot more into the Optimus phone call (where he called in as Optimus), and between that, and his voice work in the IGPX bumpers, I say he's still got it. He's just not using it here. If you want comparison, this thread has a number of the same sayings, but from the original G1 source. SWB

I'm sure that when he gets to doing the actual movie, he'll have some more emotion.
Or at least he had better.

Not that I really can call myself a voice actor with the scant work I've done, but you tend to get better quality when you actually have a scene & parse it some motivation. Then you can add inflection & some emotion to your tone.
Cullen was given a bunch of lines, and he read them well enough, but without any real variation in his tone. Given the nature of what he was being asked to read, I couldn't really expect anything better. SWB SWB

1. Half the Autobots were killed by Megatron's invasion party (and the consequent invasion of Autobot City/Metroplex), not Unicron. Point in fact, besides eating Lithone, Uni doesn't appear at all for the first solid chunk of the movie. 2. Jazz and Bumblebee DO show up. They don't do a whole lot (Jazz calls Unicron a "Gi-normus planet" and then gets gobbled up, and Bumblebee blows up a moon in Uni's face and then gets gobbled up), but they are present. 3. Despite claims to the contrarary, G2 didn't begin until LONG after the original series ended and it was literally just a repackaging of the original series, except it was "improved" with lots of really, really, really awful special effects cluttering up the screen. Also: The toys were mostly worse. Up until they actually used the term "Generation 2", it was all G1. Even all the awful, awful, Japanese series. Yes, I am a huge Transformers nerd. |

Well I'm obviously not so hot on the movie itself. Yeah, Jazz and Bumblebee show up for like, thirty seconds, but that's not exactly what I wanted out of Transformers: The Movie, anyway.
But weren't most of the Autobots killed at Autobot City part of the newly introduced crowd? The people who showed up between 1984 and 2005 off-camera?

Mirai flubbed some of the facts, but as for his G2 comment, I'd say the after effects of the TF movie felt more like a 2nd Gen than the actual G2 did. One way or another, most of the original cast was wiped out. And on both sides we got new faces, as well as new leaders.
In G2, at its start we get just a lot of the old G1 faces with new paint jobs. So in comparison, post TF movie does feel like a new gen to me. (Of course, it doesn't help that I pretty much didn't follow the TF line ever since the action master days, right up until Beast Wars. I was never a comic reader, as I couldn't really afford the habit & I hate jumping into stories mid-stream, so when G2 first came out, all I saw were the recycled molds.) SWB
