The fact that you guys are sayin pretty much only games that were released near the end of 2006 makes me a sad camper...

Gears of War? Really? Prettier game perhaps... but BEST game of 2006? Not likely at all...

I haven't played Zelda yet, so my favorite was Guitar Hero II, and I feel that Tales of the Abyss deserves a mention.

I stumbled upon it a few weeks ago, but it is eating my soul- in the good way.

Okami is a close second. Why Capcom? Why did you have to kill Clover studios?

I don't think they killed it, though. The reason stated is that they were doing internal restructuring. While they dissolved the name of Clover Studios (which was Capcom owned anyway), I think that the 'clover' team will still be working within Capcom itself. They didn't disband it, they just brought it into Capcom proper.

I'd have to say Okami, FFXII, and Guitar Hero II. I got Final Fantasy and Guitar Hero II for Christmas, and they have taken my soul. Well, the bits of my soul that haven't been permanently claimed by Okami. And by 1970's Doctor Who episodes. But I digress.

I was disappointed by it. Get three quarters into the game, to the point where you must go into the first portal to Oblivion, and thought, "This is it? This is the rest of the game?" Finished the game and went, "Meh." I did a bit of work exploring things, detailing for a wiki the minor side quests like the statues and others, but I was sorely disappointed by them. Short, simple, uninvolving. Maybe if I kept with it a bit longer for some good mods to come out, I'd have liked it a bit more, but I think the issues I had with it were too innate into the engine.

As an aside, though not yet mentioned, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic was even worse. It's like ESIV, only even more simplified, streamlined (in a bad way), and being unable to explore or vary from the main quest at all.
