a -bad- system it isnt... that is for sure. I system with a sloppy start... that i can say.

But regardless of how much truth it is in saying so, there is some Bias in there... you can see it on several sites and reviews... The PS3 bashing is just overdone... they say the things that are true... and them bash those things a hundred times for effect...

You cant really say that it "dosetn" have good games... there are some... but the damn console was just recently released... if after 6 months of its release the games dotn appear... then i'll say that its lacking... but right now, it just as expected to be.

As for PS3, it isn't a bad system. I've demoed it. It has it's falws, but yet all three do. The price ticket might be steep and scary to some, but not to all, and not when you consider what you are paying for. It's pretty cheap once you think about it. If you are getting something to play just games, then get 360 or Wii. But for me, I like something that can pretty much do everything, and I want it to use the best power and tech available.

This is very true. But I imagine many people just want a game console, maybe even the kind of game console Sony would offer, but instead Sony's tacking on all this other stuff, adding unnecessarily to price and whatnot. See why people might be displeased?

It can't be called a bad system yet, because so far it has been pretty impressive, just the media makes it seem otherwise. The PS3 has so far given all it promised publicly. Everything the public got excited and loved about, the public got, so I fail to see the failure. And since it still has games coming out, and since there are some pretty sweet titles coming, we need to wait for those to bomb before saying PS3 is a bad system. A system can't be bad if it gave what it at least promised. And PS3 gives what was promised.

Why? People obviously don't want what it promises. If they did, there wouldn't have been much Sony-hating before it launched, though indeed there was.

Honestly? Because it's what I expect from Microsoft. Microsoft's advertising practices have been about this kind of thing for a long time. The only reason people don't call out MS when they spew such bullshit is because there's no point. They don't sit atop a massive pedestal of consumer trust the way Sony does, so if they attempt to shit on their potential customers, none of it ever reaches the consumers because its difficult to hit them when MS is standing on the ground. Sony, however, has and is continuing to nail the customers standing below right between the eyes, and it's this reason that people are bitching so loudly.

Okay, I'm not particularly well-read on the console wars, but as I looked through the thread a thought occurred to me. I've seen this Jack Tretton fellow--he of the horribly arrogant statements about the Playstation 3, yes?--characterized as a sort of "lone idiot", that his opinions should be discounted. But if he is, what sane and sensible corporate executive allows things like that to go on? These statements are tantamount to repeated slashes at the throat of Sony's putative cash cow, right in front of their consumers. In any other company, such behavior would put him behind the office mail trolley for the rest of his career, surely? But he goes on saying these things, almost as tho' this is precisely the image Sony wants to project to people, or at least as tho' this is how the company likes to envision itself.

Maybe, again, this is simply the product of a vast and horrible ignorance on my part, but...is it possible that when I get the impression that Sony is, from a marketing point of view, trying to poop in consumers' mouths and call it a cupcake, I might be right?

Perhaps. But it is the quality of Sony to literally tell me "Buy our shit because we're better than everyone else", and for it to go unpunished by just about every PR they have really just means they condone it.

Marketing 'strategy' or no, the fact that Sony is literally gung-ho for shitting all over their consumers is enough to turn me off, PS3 or no.

In a related note - I find it really funny when I see jock party college students call the Wii "Gay" because you have to "act like you're throwing the ball" in Madden Apostrophe-Oh-Number, and that's just like, I dunno, so not cool. Like playing a goddamn football video game is just the essence of being cool right there. This doesn't need a response, I just thought it was relevant, since this is rapidly turning into another Playstation 3 "Yay or Nay" thread.

EDIT: Actually, not just "Buy our shit because we're better," pretty much anything they say can fall into that category, be it belittling techincal issues with the PS3 or the new "I'll pay you money if there are PS3s not being bought."
