Haha, at first I thought the same too, seeing that it was on SSBM too, and it was practically useless, but now that the names will be for personal button mode customization, it won't be useless after all, especially now that you can save the customization on the Wii-mote, which sounds nifty in my opinion.

The only downside is, you can only type the names with up to 4 letters. Aw, c'mon Sakurai, don't be so stingy, at least add one more letter so I can have my name on the character!
