Shyamalan's 2010 live action movie. How skeptical/outraged/intrigued by this are you?
I'm more optimistic than I should be, but at times get waves of cynicism. I like to think Shyamalan could make a good movie off of other people's concepts, but I suppose all signs do point to shit. |

I'm very rarely ready to write off a movie just based on its presence, I usually require at least a trailer to make that sort of decision (lie), but I don't think I could possibly enjoy the live-action movie. I could point out any number of possibilities such as plot discrepancies, poor writing, poor direction, poor "style", bad direction etc. But my main concern is of the most irrational and fanboyish concern possible. This movie will most likely rape either the aesthetics, the voice, or both of the main characters that we have come to know and love. That's it. Really. They're not going to have AN EXACT FUCKING SOKKA or A CLONE OF ZUKO, and such things (which in a rational criticism might be considered minor) will make this movie unwatchable. They could have the writing, they could have the directing, they could have good actors that nail the performances, but ultimately the characterizations would be lost to me. And that's why any adaptation of Avatar that is not an animated project motivated solely by the creative desires of Konietzko and DiMartino with all of the original cast. There is no convincing me otherwise and no way I can even begin to rationalize this perception.
I will be watching it on opening day.

The twist will be that he ISN'T the last Airbender!
Or all the events of the movie were merely the construct of his schizophrenic mind, and near the end of the movie what he perceives as reality, super powers, etc., will be exposed as fraudulent insanities, it's really present day, and he's been dead the entire movie without realizing it!

It seems that there are still open auditions for Aang. I was of course all over that shit, and I'm pretty sure I fucking nailed it and got the part, despite being a 6'2" 17 year old.
