This year for Halloween I made my first feeble attempt at constructing a Ghostbusters costume for our annual city bash. It was difficult at times without any significant wood tools at my apartment, but it didn't turn out half bad. Also, the proton "thrower" shoots silly string from the handle assembly and the "cyclotron" and "energy cell" parts of the pack light up.
I made if from mostly things lying around the apartment, like empty boxes, prescription bottles, silly string cans, sandwich containers, etc. The pack is mounted on an ALICE rucksack frame (the same that they use in the movies) that you can get on eBay for $8, and patches for $5. Some styrofoam sheets, paint, and various cheap other things from a hardware store. Total cost for the costume: $43. I also learned that many things that can be bought in craft stores (michael's, etc) can be found for about a quarter of the price at hardware stores. Anyone else constructing their own costumes this year? ![]() ![]() Wow, didn't realize how puffy the upper part of the flight suit was :P

Aw damnit I miss my camera. My costume isn't anything recognizable unless I've bothered you with my drawings.
Oh Mac, B had better not be you streaking. I shudder. If your going for the Lovecraft approach however... BRING IT MAN!

This came up on my frontpage on youtube. It's directions for making dragon wings that move according to your posture. It's probably too late to use this for Halloween, but I'd bet Shyria would be interested in mobing dragon wings for about $20.
P. Zorak, I just have to say that you wouldn't look out of place in one of the movies. Take that as you will.

The Ghostbusters costume is very cool Zorak. The fact that it lights up and shoots silly string helps make it completely awesome.
My Halloween costume, the Masked Man from Mother 3, is going to be sort of an unfinished version of what I'm going to wear to New York Comic-con. Right now I've made some decent progress on the helmet. The top half is getting close to finished, except for some more molding/sanding, the eye piece, and the paint. The bottom half, which is just a frame at the moment, will be detachable, since the helmet is fairly form fitting, it would be physically impossible to take on and off in one piece. I've got the orange pants and the boots (not visible in picture) and his black shirt (which may or may not be redone for NYCC). The white collar (which will probably be heavily revamped for NYCC) still has to be sewn on. The lightning sword I definitely need to get started on. tl;dr very unfinished Masked Man ![]() After I'm done with all the college apps stuff I'll work on his gun arm and maybe the jet pack. I'll dye my hair for NYCC as well. EDIT- I think I hate the shirt I'm using. Thrift store time. Last edited by Kaneda; 10-27-2008 at 06:15 PM. |

NPF, I have a request:
I need to create a well-executed costume before Halloween. Expenditure should be less than $25. I'm thinking lots of costume makeup, specifically regarding blood, gore, and impaled objects. Discuss and recommend! Huzzah!

I was just going to go as The Monster Under The Bed and pin a bunch of clothing and trash to my body.

Too much awesome for such a small space. Oh well. You can still punch your mother...if you want... Fifth and Krylo made me do it. http://www.animecubed.com/billy/user...sigs/60266.jpg Be the Ultimate Ninja! Play Billy Vs. SNAKEMAN today! |
