I don't know how many of you here are parents but one issue brought up in the abortion thread was the rights of the father.
Personally I've run into many snags due to the way laws tend to go against fathers. Most states will not simply take the word of the parents that who they claim to be the father is in fact the father. Any child born outside of wedlock immediately puts the father in a position where he has no rights until the local requirements are met regardless of whether or not his name is on the birth certificate. This would be fine except that the requirements of one state are not recognized in others. A prime example of this is that my daughter was born in Nevada. All I had to do to establish paternity there was fill out the birth certificate, have it notarized and submit it to the government where they in turn would issue an official birth certificate establishing my rights as a father. We moved to Arkansas where they do not recognize paterinity established in other states, and now I have to go and register myself on some online registry that I can't find. My daughter was taken in to see a doctor because blood was found in her urine. Sounds like a urinary tract infection to me. I get there in time to meet the police because any girl who is found bleeding in such a manner is automatically investigated for molestation. So by virtue of the fact that I'm her father I had to undergo investigation to ensure I wasn't sexually abusing her. Personally I'm appauled at the treatment father's who do want to be fathers have to endure.

I can see what irks you about the laws regarding fathers, requiring you to re-register in each state is really quite annoying. However, I can't see your complaint on the second matter.
Sadly, in these days child molestation is becoming more common, and the police do need to inspect every suspect. As much as it offends you, it is common practice, and has managed to catch a sizable number of molesters.

I'm not saying its wrong that they do it. I'm saying its wrong that they have to. The fact that there are so many deadbeats and molestors out there leaves the rest of us with a bad reputation.
A classic case of everyone having to suffer because of the actions of others.

They don't even check if it's not an urinary tract infection or anything similar before they investigate?

Once blood is found in the urine they have to investigate abuse first before they can finish the testing and offer a diagnosis. At least that's what they told me, I don't know if that's law or just what the doctor on duty decided.

That seems extreme, and I think they should exhaust every other possibility before jumping to the conclusion that the father is molesting his child. Even being accused of something like that can have long-term consequences in the term of how other people view you.
EDIT: So rather than checking something that can easily be proven or disproven, they make sure he isn't abusing her? I understand how horrible child abuse and molestation are, but that seems taking things a bit too far.

Unfortunately, the long-standing misandric tendencies of the (US) legal system in regards to fathers and their children will probably not change anytime soon.

Fathers should get more rights, but the laws lean towards women because it's her body so they probably think the baby only belongs to them. Not saying it's right, but it makes sense to me.

Laws very much favor the women, especially in child custody cases. A mother has to be proven unfit to lose a custody case whereas a father has to be proven fit and the mother unfit. Granted that's for full or residential custody issues, fathers can gain partial custody with hardly any trouble.

Urinary tract infections may be the result of molestation.
