Having to search by year and date - when I'm used to the comic's title and number

You can search by both title and number using the first search field under the tower banner on the left side of every page as pictured above.

I think he's refering to browsing the archives, preferring scanning through a list of episode titles/numbers as opposed to the calendar method. The search is nice if you remember the episode title to begin with, but sometimes you need visual cues to refresh the ol' memory noggin.

Forum links at the top now work under 8-bit, Warbot, and Robo. Something weird is going on with Robo's links. They change to the "default" setting and we lose the Robo specific banner when viewing previous comics pages. Can't find a reason for it in the code, must keep looking.

2. I just noticed that you don't have a cast list. Instead of having people use the extra link to wikipedia, you could just copy paste what's there (more or less) and give credit to them.

It's been like that for years.

4. When people think of home, they think of going to the main page.

[edit]"home" tabs other than the one on the front page are now coded to say "Latest Comic" but I'm not seeing the change yet. Could be a caching issue. Must wait and see.

[edit]Starting to see the "home" tab turn to "latest" on most comics pages but not others. Since the same code propagates this change to all relevant pages, I have to assume it's a caching issue. Not sure if I can get "home" to change to "latest" on the latest comic pages themselves though.

[edit]Hell, I dunno. Robo page 1 and 16 are stuck with default tabs and no Robo banner, but every other Robo page works fine. Very unusual.

[final(?) edit] Hilarious. Updating Robo pages 1 and 16 without changing anything in them fixed the problem. This is funny because the only code in there says "refer to this other thing", which would be the settings I altered earlier. For a real world example of how dumb this is: imagine that you bite into an apple and it makes your TV turn on.

I also suggest you move the guest comics and other interludes (field of battle and the oriental one) into the extras portion of the site if you can.

If I did that, and wanted to make those comics available to read, it would require adding another big comic button on the main page. I think. If this is not the case, I can set guest/filler comics up on their own archive and link that from the 8-bit section with a tab that says "guest comics" or perhaps within the list of things in the to-be-added "extras" tab. No promises though!

On another note I'll be updating the comic arcs thread tonight to work with the new url format even though it will be made obsolete once the transcription search is complete

Not necessarily. We don't yet have storyline support, but that will be implemented later this year. 8BT will be done by then, but your breakdown of arcs could be another handy way for people to browse or search the archives.

Yeah, after a while they're not as noticable. The banner ad is also not bad once you get used to it being there. It's a pretty good design, with a nice layout. It's not something that always annoys me when I see it, like Something Awful's current design.

It also looks really nice on my netbook's 9" screen. Fits perfectly.

I was expecting dark blue hues, but I have to say that I really like these colours, and this is coming from someone who normally hates too much red/orange/yellow. And yay at one of the "favorite moments" pictures I submitted being used.

Also, one idea for the archives I had was something like this:

<Month, Year> (or just month)
<Episodes from that month>
<Next month>

So you get:

2004
January, 2004
Episode 367: Address Verification, Shmaddress Verification
Episode 368: Power Level 80 Bazillion!
etc.

And then in the background of the page (or scattered around near the dates/episode list), have pictures of comics from around those dates. Obviously, you'd want memorable moments (for instance, Red Mage setting himself on fire in the Sky Castle near early 2008 or whenever that was) or identifiable ones (like introducing a major character). These could easily be pictures people submitted in the "Favorite Moments" thread. Alternatively (or in addition to), there could be art/spritework of characters closely associated with those dates, such as:

2002: Bikke/Matoya/Red Mage

I'm not sure if this is supposed to happen or not but it's kind of weird. If you go to a comic where the title is too long to fit in the box for it, rather than just wrapping, it goes to an entirely new box! Example.

EDIT: Episode 535 is broken for me as well.
