How did you think that was a good idea?!

So, this happened to come up this morning while Nique and I were driving to work. I started yelling about this guy not turning on his blinker, and it popped into my head:

Who the eff decided that "blinker" was a good thing to call something?! I mean, think about it. It seriously means "the thing that blinks". Can you imagine the fool who came up with that? "Oh yeah, this thing that blinks? I'm gonna call it a 'Blinker'." I feel like it's basically the equivalent of saying "Thingamajigger" is the official name for something.

Anyone else have moments like this when some figure of speech just does not make any sense?
