Okay, so I'm considering making a web site. Is there web space that doesn't suck? This is what I'm looking for:
- presently/near future: Somewhere to make a personal/professional web site. Being free is pretty much a must, because I'm not going to pay for something that I might not be using for a bit yet. Really doesn't have to have any bells and whistles. I'd prefer to do my own HTML/JavaScript and maybe a bit of PHP on it, just to show it off if there's a reason I need anything like that. The purpose of the site would be pretty basic. Just maybe an online resume, since that's all I've thought of so far, as I don't really blog or do anything else especially fancy. Ability to host sample programs would be a major plus. - within the next few years: Somewhere that I'll be able to put my major project, an online/offline RPG. I'd like to pretend there's a chance in Hell that such a place might be free, but I'm not deluding myself. I mean, I'm basically talking about a lightweight MMO that can be taken offline as a sort of antithesis to games like Diablo 2. Right now, doing it in C# still seems like the best idea since it'll be easier to bring to the web in ASP, despite its mixed merits for game programming (takes more memory, but it's good for RAD and does its own GC). So barring doing it in Java (which I'll admit is tempting for cross-platform implementations, provided it can be put into an applet for online use) or XNA (which I finally broke down and downloaded, if only to take a look at it, but can't find evidence of web extensibility so far), something that would support .NET 3.5 would be great.

Thanks, guys. Looking at what you two posted, it looks like Zymic is going to suit my needs better overall, or at least they're more upfront with the features I was looking for.
I'd still like to find an ASP-capable server for future use, so I'll keep this open yet, or if anyone wants to toss out more competition for my more basic need. Really, with the rarity of ASP web pages, I'm not hoping for much and fully expect to have to pay for the server space. I just could use some help figuring out what's out there.

I've heard terrible things about 1 & 1.
From personal experience I'm very happy with vidahost for php websites. As they usually answer my queries within half an hour. But not free ![]() For C++ I think you need a dedicated host or at least a VPS. As your actually installing binaries in a platform (read very expensive) For java something similar applies as a shared JVM doesn't act too well. I've heard good things about rimuhost but I don't know if they live up to it. If its an applet though it can just be pretty much any web host.

If you're down with the "free culture" thing, www.sourceforge.net is probably the best host you can have for any software.
That's all I can help with. >_>

As for another web host, I like the look of DreamHost. It's where I plan to set up website as soon as I get something meaningful to set up. They're reasonably priced and have just about anything you would want (though to be honest, I don't know if they support ASP (I don't think that they do)).
