True, but I could still see Metallica being in before them by virtue of sheer longevity in their notability. Deep Purple was really only big for eight years or so while Metallica spans three decades of active rockstardom.

That is true. Metallica is more famous overall so I can see them getting in first.

The why is the Hall chock full of people like Jelly Roll Morton, Lloyd Price, Del Shannon, The Moonglows, Solomon Burke, Gene Pitney et. al.

All while missing people like Cher, Kiss, Neil Diamond, Dan Fogelberg, Ted Nugent.

It used to be about what you did, not really how famous you were. But now, It's really "Hall of Whatever Helps us Sell Tickets"

You have to admit though, their notability over the last decade has pretty much been mostly about how awful they have become with each album. Although this last one had as many people praising it loudly as had ripping it badly, so that's an improvement.

Wait, Kiss isn't in the Hall of Fame?

...That just makes ZERO sense at all. I mean, seriously, they were pretty much a show band but "Rock and Roll All Nite" is one of the most recognizable songs ever. You can't be older than 10 and not have heard that song at least once, even if only via Guitar Hero III or Tony Hawk unless you live in a county like the one the Christian Childrens Fund shows on TV.
