I thought I cared as little as I possibly could about Mortal Kombat. Apparently I was wrong.

You only watched the trailer, I suppose?
Kotaku leaves it very open that this is either Warner's attempt at rebooting the film-franchise or the opening cinematics for a new game.

Regardless of what it is, surely you aren't suggesting that this is horrible compared to the previous piles of shit?

Johnny Cage dies in the trailer, this movie looses 10 points with me just there. But it gets 20 points cause Jacks talks a lot about "If this tournament exists" and then Sonya just gets there and says "SubZero will be at the tournament Fo'sure"

Reboot this bitch! i'm interested now!! I just want to see what kind of game they plan on pushing out of this one...

They sort of did this already, didn't they? LoZ: Spirit Tracks? I kid, but I don't know that this is ever going to happen. The problem is that LoZ has always been a high fantasy setting and as soon as you take that out, you're going to have problems. Even if they did, you'd have the issues with the fans: it's very likely such a project would be a series' killer. I mean, I'd love for a LoZ to be made by Team Ico, but that's probably not going to happen either.

I'm presuming you mean the mayor, little baby kid, and that one other parent. Outside of those three, I thought the designs were beautiful, and they've (almost purposefully, it seems) had occasionaly ugly character designs in every game I've played (admission: I've missed a few, especially the game boy titles). Heck, that (presumed) "master sword" character isn't terribly lovely himself (though he's a far cry from some I've mentioned above).

Oocoo were odd, I admit, but they were supposed to be. They don't completely fit with the rest of the creative 'history' of the world, but that's okay: so far none of the LoZ's have fit perfectly with any other. Whenever I play, I get the feeling that I'm more playing the retold story of the events through the lens of a bard than the actual "history" itself, with my unique experiences being the result of whatever said bardspoony bard! happens to be doing the retelling. The oocoo simply seem to be one more element of that. It works for the game, and I'm okay with it. I am curious to see what they're going to do with them in the future.

I watched the trailer and read what Kotaku said. This is the week before E3, and that is very obviously not a movie trailer. It's for a new game. It's meant to build hype for the E3 announcement.

The previous games were stupid, but this super serious GRIMDARK take on Mortal Kombat is just... really damn stupid.

Gimme a bullet-point list why this is obviously a game-trailer. I must have missed it with the whole not "feeling like a game-trailer" thing.
I mean, fair enough, it could be a game-trailer, but it could also be a movie.

And I fully disagree on the "being dark" is stupid.
It's pretty clearly a reboot, so they could do two things:
1) Carry on like it was, and just retcon everything out of existence
2) Or turn a new leaf, and pray it'll pay off.

So... carry on with the stupid, or do it anew and hope people won't think it's as stupid as it was. Which has failed on your end, obviously.

EDIT: Okay, I said game-trailer. What I meant was this hyping video.

Valve canceled a Portal 2 event at E3 promising a big surprise, then Gabe Newell said that the surprise wasn't going to be Episode 3. I'll reiterate my hope for a full Half-Life 3. That, or Left 3 Dead.

Actually I meant from memory all the children (including the bug girl), Ilia, most of the random NPCs... and well pretty much every human not Link, one of that family with the brother and the two sisters who run the fishing and shooting minigames, true form Midna and that girl with the Yeto mask. But the kids and Illia especially. Basically I just disliked the art design used in that game and thought it only really worked with a handful of characters, leaving everyone else ugly at best.

Also my problem with the Oocoo wasn't a problem with them not fitting, I just thought they crossed the line between tolerably creepy and "uncomfortable to look at" creepy. Also doubt they will do anything with them in the future (other than maybe in the upcoming Wii game as it appears to be the direct sequel to TP). Only races that seme to recur in the Zelda series are Gorons, Fairies and Zoras. Oocoo will probably disappear
like the Kokiri, Gerudo, Rito, those underground guys from the gameboy games, the dwarves from ALttP....

It'd be difficult to expect the Gerudo to have survived their only male in a hundred years getting sent to another dimension, since other than him they have to rely on mating with Hylian males. Thus missing that particular generation their bloodline would've been entirely assimilated into Hylian society. It was only a matter of time, of course, but technically Link is responsible for near genocide! Talk about an evil little bastard!

I hope there is a full trailer of the new Zelda game and not just like some thirty second video that says a couple of things and doesn't show anything...
