I don't understand the whole Lady Bieber, or Justin Gaga things at all. Why do people listen to that stuff when they could listen to music that doesn't grate on the ears? Really, just about anything is better than those two things.

Alejandro is actually a pretty catchy song, albeit redundant as most pop music tends to be. It's also very well choreographed. Granted, I haven't really listened to Gaga's other stuff, and it's not something I'd listen to regularly, but it's certainly not bad.

I'm a sucker for narrative-less pseudo-expressionist dance numbers I guess. Plus bowl cuts. (And machine gun bra.) |

See, to me? Catchy means really annoying. If something is 'catchy' than I tend to want to blow my brains out with a .45 cal. That song, and Gaga's other songs, tend to do that to me. Luckily I don't have to tolerate it very often.

Anyone who can actually sing and dance their ass off is likely to get praise from me. I'm not a huge R&B fan, but Usher is pretty awesome.
I guess I used to be prejudiced against certain musical genres but eh, I don't really care anymore. It feels like some latent after effect of the high school mentality. If you were to ask me "what's your favorite kind of music" I'd say something like "Indie rock and roll." but I try to give everything a shot. There's a lot of shitty pop music abroad these days. Lady Gaga doesn't really make shitty music. As far as pop goes, it's top notch, and her music videos are generally really entertaining (moreso her later ones where I think she's had a lot more creative latitude, her breakout hits were pretty much just earbug catchy and standard music industry "look at my titties" stuff, but even then there was a keen sense of off the wall fashion involved. Like I watch a Britney Spears or Kesha or whatever video and there's nothing to think about. The sense I get is that this woman is trying to make some money, and the people behind her are trying to make even more. When I watch a Lady Gaga video, I get the sense that this woman is trying to make some music, and the people behind her are pretty much shutting the fuck up and holding their breath. |
