I mean Kratos totally kills gods all the time. This isn't anything exceptionally new; it's just trying to make a combination of epic conclusion and overcoming the biggest of challenges.

Heh, if we're gonna include other JRPGs, it probably goes back to the original SMT games. They didn't even bother with god "like", they just went right to YVYH.

Hell, when they realized FFIX didn't really have a good dosage of "God", they threw in Necron at the end for shiggles. <_<
Don't look at me like that. YOU explain it. |

It was, totally, like, the spirit of the IIfa Tree, or some other such theory created entirely by fans because Squarenix was too lazy to explain it adequately in the game.
I'm just picking, bluestarultor, I saw those three and couldn't resist. I mean, Vayne is a pretty weak character in my opinion, Quistis is from FFVIII (everyone's favorite dead horse--still fun to beat), and Nooj was named Nooj (still have to finish that game though, so maybe Nooj gets awesome or something). You guys forgot the Breath of Fire series, you're always killing God in those games. Every final boss in FF since and including FFVI has been angelic, however (well, Seymour wasn't the FINAL boss, but you get my idea), so the God thing has been in FF for a long long time. Over a decade, in fact.

He's more likable than most FF villains, and his motives make more sense than "I'm gonna destroy the planet so mommy will love me." Plus, his lack of characterization totally pays off when you go to fight him and he says "Who are you?"
Yes, I know that's not what he meant, but shut up.

It still kind of just came down to "I want to rule the world", though, even if there was some anti-God/humanism motive attached to it.
I do like FFXII though because the characters are a lot more realistic and understated in their reactions to things. Something FFXIII('s trailer) didn't really have in it. Except the villain. I don't know, it just seems like if you're going to have someone incredibly melodramatic it oughta be the bad guy at least. If your characters are insane, your villain needs to be insaner or they risk seeming run-of-the-mill and uninteresting. I still like Kefka after all these years, I don't think the game would've been the same if he was like General Leo. EDIT: And while I'm aware that the guy I'm referring to is undoubtedly FFXIII's Dragon, it seems like the overarching "villain" is just going to be a lame council or something. I don't see them introducing someone insane as the real villain or something.

I'll have to replay the game, I forget that speech, although I think it was something like "You lost, we won, get over it." if I remember correctly. I also remember it read cooler in the Japanese trailer.
Which leads me to another question: do you guys think that FFXIII will have both English and Japanese language tracks, at least on the PS3 Blu-Ray disc?

Actually, it was more like, "Your king wanted peace, and I'm sorry for all my country has done. Go ahead and hate me, but honor the memory of your king by maintaining the peace." And then he went up to Vaan's boss dude and was all "Hey, we cool, bro. Let's go get wasted." It was delivered incredibly well, I thought.

Also, here's something depressing I read from FF Wiki: apparently the l'Cie are pretty much boned either way, whether they complete their Focus or not. It might be the language being unclear, or maybe fans misconstruing things, but apparently, if they die before completing their focus, they become the giant crystal monster Cie Corpse, while when they complete it, they're rewarded with being turned into a crystal. Sounds like a piss-poor reward to me, but at the moment, it seems to be based on one thing, and I'm pretty sure the trailer we have here pretty clearly shows the person in question dying, so I'm thinking it's less as a reward for Focus completion and poof so much as it's better to be a pretty rock that sits there when you die than a pretty rock that rampages when you die.
