What with the crystals in a lot of the games having godlike powers and being immortal and so forth, it's probably supposed to be a "good" way to die, since you'd technically be becoming something more powerful and more knowing than a mere human. Like joining the gods on Mount Olympus.

Sazh's Eidolon is named Brunhilde.
~~The new character in the latest trailer~~ Zacqueline's name is Oerba Yun Fang and she uses a spear.
Her Eidolon's Bahamut, and she protects Sanctum.

Totally called it. Her having Bahamut, that is. Still, a spear for a female character? Not that it's right to say they're pushing limits with it, because it's honestly about time, given even in feudal times, a naginata was one of few weapons allowed women, but I like it.

Also, Oerba? I'm guessing she's of the same tribe as Vanille and that those people reverse their surnames somehow, which explains why Vanille was always identified by what appeared to be her last name.

Also, given that she's got battle shots, chances are she's a party member.

Now I really have to wonder about Siren and Carbuncle, though, because all of the Eidolons are looking mechanical at this point, with those two as notable exceptions. I wonder if Carbuncle is really an Eidolon at all, given the difficulty of presenting a Gestalt Mode for it, and I'm thinking Siren is Serah's, which means it wouldn't be playable from all current indications and wouldn't have to fit into Gestalt Mode anyway.

It really begs the question of Vanille's actual Eidolon, or if by some random twist of fate (Matt or Jeff, take your pick) she ends up with both somehow.

Her default class was Dragoon though right? Been about 9 years since I played FF5 admittedly.

All default classes were the "normal" class which could equip anything. I think you probably just had her as a dragoon when you were playing. That may be an optimal class based on her stats (she made a good monk) but nothing in the game would tell you that- only people working out optimal builds on internet.

Huh, must have been as you said and I just had her be a dragoon a lot. Anyway back to FF13, new character looks cool, don't really like either of the new eidolons though, maybe they'll look better moving.

...now I'm gonna go play FF5.
