Edgar is possibly Iron Man-invents gadgets, uses them to fight, rich, misogynist, is the boss of a technological wonderland, plays both sides.

Also, just saying, that "se" is pronounced "say" so it still doesn't sound like "cell"-anything, if we're being picky.

Phonetics!
But that's not even Re

That's Se - Ri - Su

vs

Se -Re -Su

Because the Japanese l/r is like a Spanish blurring of both, There's a ton of ways to say the name. It's like the battle for Aeris vs Aerith. Just pick one and keep going.

Preferrably one that doesn't sound like ass in aural form.

I'm looking at youuuu "Aerith".

Also it occurred to me the only difference between Mr Fantastic and Iron Man is that one of them is alcoholic and the other one is made of rubber.

It's not the L/R that's being disputed here. It's the vowel sound in the middle of the name, which clearly no one wants to admit that I'm right about, possibly because they like the "Les" connotation.

And this is a ridiculous point to derail the thread with because may I point out once again, and I know I will be saying this until my bones dry up and grow spiderwebs and my moustache hairs pierce my tongue, but you downloaded it, you go ahead and name the characters whatever you want, baby.

...Or learn to use FF3usME's Actor Editor. Then YOUR name will pop up, and YOU can press start, lazybones.

...Shadow is totally Spiderman

*Thumbs up*

I'm of the same opinion myself. It's just one of those sticking points of a foreign language.

Default It's the reasoning, not the pronunciation

For the record I don't care what you named her, I'm just pointing out that if we're being picky about being true to the the Japanese pronunciation and saying one way is "right" or not, why not be picky about the whole thing? (Saying which way is "right" is silly. (note: I'm not saying that "cell-ess" is "right" either, I'm just debating the reasoning. PS: "Sell-eese" is totally a legitimate pronunciation of Celes, without even getting into the whole Japanese thing.)

Out of curiosity, how do you pronounce "Relm" because it uses the same character we're disputing in "Celes". Nevermind I'll stop derailing the topic with potato/potato stuff.

Man why we would pronounce things like Japs? Aren't they the enemy?

Well, I tried to go with phonetics because that seems the only reliable bridge between the two languages. When it came to proper names of people, that is. You'll also notice that Locke Cole is now from Colingen.

I don't think the potato/potahto thing works in text.

I just read that as potato/potato.

Personally, I always pronounced "Cell-ess" because she's a foil to Terra, and though I know Terra is Tina in Japanese, I imagine the localization team was trying to go along the whole foil thing with Terra being Earth and Celes being the heavens or whatever. Blah blah blah over-thinking names.

But yeah, I wasn't trying to be like ARGH YOU ARE WRONG FOR PRONOUNCING IT OTHERWISE.
