NWN is complicated. The basic campaign is, while not terrible, almost certainly a chore. The Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark campaigns are pretty good.
However, the campaigns on the disc aren't what Neverwinter Nights is about. First, there's character creation, which is ever so slightly dumbed down D&D. A few skills are missing or different, and some feats are missing. Also, most of the tactical moves (Aid Another, Bullrush, Over-run, Grappling, etc.) are missing. You have a thing called Knockdown, and it's basically trip. Even with this, you could create lots and lots of characters and they could all play differently. Plus, the expansions give you some prestige classes and epic levels. Then, there's the main draw of NWN: the editor. It let's you make modules. It's very, very, very powerful, and became more and more so as time went on. You can download other people's modules, and that will be the bulk of your playtime. You can play online with a DM (maybe. You'd pretty much have to set up the game with real life friends), people have made persistent worlds (that may or may not still be running), and there are lengthy campaigns. However, and this is as a guy who hasn't played in about a year and hasn't been active in the NWN community for even longer, I think you may have missed the game's time in the sun. I know there are folks still active in the community, but I assume they're split now between NWN2 and Bioware's "gonna be released some time this century" new game, Dragon Age. I'd still say it's $45 well spent if you've never played before. It's a good way to familiarise yourself with third edition D&D, too.

Well, I enjoy D&D, and I am used to 2.4 rules, son updating my knowledge would be a good idea. Is the character creation offering all races and classes from D&D, and how am I ale to change the look of my guy?

All core (Player's Handbook) classes, all core races. You can't super-duper mega fudgie awesome customise your character. Choose from a selection of heads, choose from way too many hair and skin colors, fat or not, a portrait, voice, race and gender. Also, your armor is shown on your character, and armor can be pretty varied in appearance and color. Weapons, shields, and helmets are also displayed, but there isn't as much variety.
Also, I didn't know second had a .4 edition. Also also, they're on 3.5 right now, so if you want to familiarise yourself with current D&D in a videogame setting, NWN2 might be better (though I know almost nothing about it).

My mistake, 2.5, is Drow considered a core race in those rules?

Look. Community site. It has answers on what is and isn't in the game. This is a much faster way of answering game content questions.
And no, you can't really be a drow. You can make a grey-skinned elf, but he won't have the racial abilites. Or you could get a hak pack off of NWN Vault to make drow playable. I'm sure someone's made one by now.
