I don't have much to add, but with the recent stuff about her kid sister... I figured it might be interesting.

I really think that the press needs to stop giving the Spears family so much airtime. I mean, seriously, the news this morning was like, Huckabee and Obama win in Iowa! *shift* Britney Spears taken away in an ambulance! So? The Spears girls aren't important, at all. At least some celebrities give to charities and try to help other people (even if it is just for good PR.) The Spears can't even help themselves. The press should just leave them alone until they can get their lives back on track.

I agree 100% with you, the media puts way to much time into crap like this. We need to get back to the importance of politics. I live in Austria currently and I had to wade through numerous articles about Britney just to find who won the primary.

EDIT: I was looking at American news sources.

Fortunately, Yahoo! gets it. My main stories on my yahoo page were about Obama and Huckabee's victories in Iowa, the US unemployment rate reaching a 2-year high, and Comets Tuttle and Holmes are paying Earth repeat visits. She was first-page news in the entertainment section, though, which is sad.

I guess an entertainer being intoxicated, ruining her life, and squandering the gifts that she has received through life (from God, nature, pure chance, or whatever else one might believe) is more interesting to the public than an entertainer who stays clean, makes good choices, has a positive reputation, and uses his or her gifts to help others.

Looking at CNN.com, I see that Spears being taken to the hospitol was the most popular story thus far, with the Iowa Caucuses being second, and the third being a man who fell 47 stories and lived..

To be honest, people need to take the spotlight off of her, and let her get her life back in order. Would you be able to do that if you kept having national attention on you?

I would use it for personal gain and public influence. Even if it was for only a short time, I would make enough money to deal with just about anything for the rest of my life.

Certainly not. It is when I am being the most closely scrutinized that I make the most mistakes, especially if I am aware of the attention. If I'd messed up my life that badly, I'd need time, space, and privacy to get back on track...and once I did, I'd come back better than ever, and THEN they could pay attention to me...but they wouldn't, because as Don Henley said, "People love it when you lose."

By the way, CNN has gotten as bad as TMZ, US Weekly, and omg! when it comes to reporting real news that has any real impact on anyone who isn't a celebrity. I know celebrities are role models and all, but idolizing Britney and her ilk isn't going to lower the unemployment rate, get our soldiers out of Iraq, or help us select the most effective candidate to be our next President.
