Default Nuklear Brawl Bros. - SMASH BROTHERS TOURNAMENT THREAD

So, yeah, we're going to be prepping up a tournament pretty soon. I still haven't gotten my Wii yet so I can't, but we're going to start taking recommendations.

There will be two tournaments. I don't want to play in a casual (and I'm sure there's more like me) and casuals probably won't want to play in a pro's. We're going to split it up, where one is the love-to-hate No Items Fox Only Final Destination Pro-style tourney, and one Item-filled Bit 'O Madness partyfest.

Also: if anyone starts the Pros vs Casual players bashing again, I'm going to cast Maximised Summon Moderator IX, and you will be out of the tournament. I'm sick of the Overtechnical Pro Player versus the Sneering Party Casual and I don't want that shit in this thread. I would normally say "Make a new thread" but I doubt anyone wants that, either.

So, yeah, taking suggestions for rules. Once I can play Brawl I'll make a descision about stages and items, see if anything's too messed up.

If you want in, put your friend code into Nuklearpedia here. If you only want to participate in the tournament, put (TOURNAMENT ONLY) next to your name. If you don't want to let your friend code out but you want to participate, well, tough cookies, 'cause Nintendo is strange like that.

Pro Rules:
5 Stock Matches
1 v 1, or 2 v 2 Team, depending on which is more preferred
Restricted Levels, including Hyrule Temple and Game and Watch
No Items
All Characters
Tournament official will pick the stage ahead of time
Final Smash Ball On

Casual
Some restricted levels (Hyrule Temple is a "Run away and throw at/shoot the opponent" and it's annoying)
1 v 1 or 2 v 2 Team, or 4 FFA, depending on which is preferred
All Items, set to High
All Characters
Again, official will pick the stage ahead of time
Final Smash Ball On

Also, reasoning behind the Smash Ball for Pro: I like the kind of dynamic it adds. When the Smash ball appears, do you go for it or try and eliminate the player first? What happens if you miss? What if they get it, do you run away or wait to dodge or pound on them to hope it pops out again? It's not without tactical merit and it's a perfectly solid part of the character's move roster.

Don't you mean "hate-to-love"? :p

While I'd love to get in on this, I dunno if I'll have the time--either to do it, or to get good enough to do it. I've only unlocked two characters so far, and I'm 5% through SSE... If my battles with Moogle last night are any indication, I'll be out in the first round. :stressed:

Also, should we maybe list friends codes in the OP, or should that just be another thread?

That's my problem with how it is organised at the moment. Can a third party choose a stage in online even when he or she is not participating in the match? I'm going to test it tonight, but if that's not possible I wonder how that can be done.

RT: I mean like, the players will have to pick and it'll be decided ahead of time. I won't have to worry about the 'how' that way.

RZ: Friend codes are in Nuklearpedia. I should probably add that in. Editing.

This tournament is SO casual we will restrict hyrule temple!
THATS JUST WAY TOO CASUAL! We're trying to look like professional casual players here!

All you marth players are dead when I'm in.

I'll come play in the tournament and put up my friend code probably early tomorrow morning.

The only problem I'll have is it that I can really only play during nights EST.

Go for it.

There is no reason ever to not go for it.

Hit the other guy on the way, but unless you like losing go for it.

Also, if the other guy gets it, you run. Run away fast. Assuming it's not one of the many "Hit B as soon as you can with no downside" final smashes.

Edit - Merely giving hints as to what people should do with smash balls. Joining both tournaments myself.

Even if you put items to very low, this will make smash balls far too common. From what I can tell, the game spawns items at a fairly steady rate, and which item is determined after the decision to spawn an item has been made - the probabilities are weighted to make some items more common than others, but if there's only one item on obviously it'll spawn every time. Smash Balls are only rare if there's other items that can be spawned instead.

He has a point, I'd say turn on the smokeballs, seriously, what it going to hurt? OMG THERES A PURPLE HAZE.
You could also turn on Sandbags, they're fairly useless

Errrr... sorry about jumping in like this. I know I can't join this tournament since I don't have the game, but there is something I'd like to add regarding Smash Balls in the Pro tournament. This

Is my sentiments exactly. Even with Smash Balls only on at Low, the Smash Ball would show up about 3-4 times in the 4 minute, 4 player FFA matches while I played at school. And I think it's obvious that some characters are boned in the FS department (DK and PK Trainer come to mind....) while the same couldn't be said for other characters (Yoshi, Sonic, Snake, Kirby, etc.). Yes, I know it's considered another form of balancing, but in the end, I think a pro tournament should be more of a battle of skill and ability rather than whether or not you happen to be close to the Smash Ball and whether or not you're lucky enough to be close to it when it's about to be broken and whether or not your character's FS is one that can totally change the tides of the match. That's just my opinion on the matter; take it with a grain of salt if you'd like since I am really in no position to decide...

EDIT: One more thing, wouldn't the inclusion of Smash Balls also mean the inclusion Pity FS's?
