WHAT IS THIS GAME??????
Super Smash Bros Brawl is a hugeass party fighter featuring Nintendo's icons of the past and present, plus a couple of other third party characters. It also just happens to feature a metric assload of sheer content, more so than a lot of other single player games. Seriously, Sakurai looked into the hearts and minds of the fans and put in almost everything they wanted. Currently the subject of many Godzilla-sized threads here on NPF, this is the latest one. This is for general discussion of the game. Discussion of friend codes, online matchups and tournaments should probably go to their respective threads. Will this thread have spoilers? Probably, so I'd be careful if I were you. there will be spoilers in this here OP too.

All those characters! Amazing! All with their own unique properties to live, learn and love. No direct clones this time too! Of course, most of the cast must be unlocked, but don't worry because there's more than one way to unlock characters. There's the main single player campaign, there's vs matches, Classic mode or perhaps another obscure way to get them.

Single player campaign? In my fighting game?
Yep, Brawl has a full on single player campaign in the Subspace Emissary. Fight through several stages as the Nintendo mascot of your choice to save the world from a dark evil that threatens to engulf the world, or at least turn everybody into statues. Plot written by the guy who wrote Kingdom Hearts 2's plot! It's not even single player, since you can play through the entire thing with a buddy.

What else can I do?
Everything you could do in Melee you can do in Brawl, and there's even more shit to waste your life on! Wanna do special co-op events with a buddy? Go right ahead. Wanna try out the games the fighters come from? Sure, knock yourself out. Making stages shaped like dicks? Be my guest. Coming up with crazy special brawls? The sky's the limit! You can even change the probability of songs appearing on stages! What other fighter lets you do that?

How's the actual fighting?
It's slower than Melee's, comparable to Smash 64. Recovery is easier, advanced techniques are easier, everything is easier in Brawl. You can fight online with random people or with 3 other friends, with up to three people on one console in friend matches.

Online? Awesome!
Yep, Smash has finally officially gone online, and while it's not perfect it's more than servicable. You can play random, limited matches with anonymous strangers, but friend matches are where the action is. You can even do non-fighting modes like Home Run contest online. See a friend playing? Join in his game if there's room. Sadly you cannot directly invite people to games, but that's what AIM is for. No real chat either. Still, it's perfectly playable.

Wow, after about an hour of trying on Event 41 I finally beat it on Normal mode with Marth. Granted I got lucky as hell and managed to keep them all to one side and was even luckier to have 2 super mario mushrooms land directly on my head during my attacks definitely helped out. I managed to kill them all in under 47 seconds without losing a life. Still incredibly tough match-up though.

Edit: Just finished it on Hard mode on my first try. Man I'm getting extremely extremely lucky on this.

OH NO YOU DIDN'T

It took me like 20. With Ike. And I got lucky as hell that the "main threat" decided it was fun to commit suicide within the first 5 seconds of the match.

So yeah, Cheers all around.

Beat it with Lucas on my seventh try. PK Thunder spamming works great against Giga Mario. Just jump off the platform and make sure you're out of reach from his F-Smash. PK Thundering yourself horizontally outprioritises everything. After Giga Mario is done you can easily take care of Snake and Sonic.

Yeah Giga Mario is the worst with his F-smash hit. Pretty much a guaranteed KO hit if he manages to hit you while you're climbing back onto the stage. And yeah you definitely need to get lucky with some of them committing suicide. Giga Mario was nice enough to do that as well as Sonic on one occasion. Snake is a pushover and he ran into his own planted bomb for my win on Hard mode.

Wow, it took a while, but I finally got 11 kills in Cruel Brawl with Kirby. Also 100% in Subspace. Woohoo.

And my connection finally started working right. Although I keep getting disconnected every minute which isn't fun.

Edit: I beat Event 41 on 5th try. Yay for multiple cracker launchers.
