Dragonlance vs. Forgotten Realms
I am actually a fan of both D@D campaign settings. Strictly speaking, however, I think the Realms have more to offer for D@D players.
Dragonlance, on the other has some great series of books, by Margret Weis and Tracy Hickman, such as The War of the Souls, and The Dark Discple. Of course, R. A. Salvatore has written a lot of great books about Drizz't Do' Urdan. I guess it comes out to a draw, but I would like to see what the rest of you think. Dragonlance vs. Forgotten Realms: Let the D@D debate begin. |

Dragonlance would totally kick Forgotten Realm's ass if they got in a fight.

Hey the Dark Elf Trilogy and Icewind Dale were pretty good.
I mean after that it was just all downhill, but those were good. |

They’re both excellent series, but I find that the writings of Ed Greenwood and R.A. Salvatore are what bind a world for me. Salvatore writing Star Wars books drew me into Star Wars, into his own worlds. He created and shaped Drizzt and that is the portion of the F.R. that really appeals to me. Fuck Arabel. Dragonlance has a handful of endearing characters, but most of them just… bore me, in the long run. Also the Campaign guide for Dragonlance is a pile of crap compared to the F.R.C.S. Dragonlance is a short summary of rules for playing with a bunch of shitty token and novelties slipped into it, whereas the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting book contains long, thought out rules and postings for Races, Character Classes and special rules pertaining to realm, Prestige Classes, Lands and Territories, and detailed backgrounds on all major NPC characters, listing a minimum of 2 for each different region. The gaming aspects are well thought out, prepared, and presented in FR. Dragonlance has some good stories- but it doesn’t appeal to me as a world I’d ever like to play in. |

![]() Oh, so I've got this jerk to thank. Naw but in all seriousness when Ed Greenwood actually writes what he wants to its great; when WotC is all "Hey go write this book cause we love money" it ends out craptacularity awful. |

Forgotten Realms seems to have the edge so far, but what about two of the most awsome villains of all time: Raistlin Majare and Mina.
Raistlin Majare: He only journeys to the Abyss, kills off all of the gods, and becomes the only god himself. Albet breifly. Mina: She is able to bring the entire world, gods included, to its knees when she believes she is only a mere mortal. Think about it: a 100,000 creature army of udead that cannot be destroyed, control over all the spirirts who had died in the last thirty years, an army of thousands of Chromatic dragons, and she rides a ghost dragon that represents all of the dragons who had died in th past thirty years. Now that is badass. That does not even cover what she does in The Dark Disciple. Just something to think about. ![]() |
