well I admit its second hand, but from my understanding the actual book is insanely dark. Mad Hatter being an example, being depicted in the Disney movie as wacky while in the book being psychotic. But as I said this is what I was told by someone I know thats read it, so I make no garentee to its accuracy

nonsense like this is pushing me closer and closer to writing a parody comic of the whole "ALICE AM GRIMDARK" concept that crosses wonderland with Fist of the North Star and Heavy Metal.

that said. Johnny Depp and Tim Burton need to be separated for the next, say, 10 years? also, Burton needs to be banned for that amount of time from making any adaptation or sequel of another work, so that maybe he can do something outside of his normal range.

Keep in mind that Burton's grimdark is different from regular grimdark. Burton's grim dark has crazy colors and psychedelics.

Not really digging the Mad Hatter's look.

Three guesses who else is in this in a prominent role.

(e: that's what I get for copying image urls from other forums and not checking if they're actually separate images. Whatever. The table-breaking monstrosity stays.)

Also Alan Rickman (The Caterpillar), Stephen Fry (Cheshire Cat) Christopher Lee (Jabberwock) and, always one of my favourites, Crispin Glover. You certainly can't blame the casting if this goes wrong. Burton's obsession with day-glo Victorian aesthetics, maybe.

I'd rather see Alice in Wonderland by Terry Gilliam and Tim Burton go back to Batman, just for the sake of proving that you can make a more colorful Batman movie than Joel Schumacher. Johnny Depp as Joker and Helena Bonham-Carter as Harley Quinn and it's as good as done.

I was really looking forward to this movie until I saw the overabundance of Johnny Depp in the trailer. Now I'm mildly interested. And Aerozord, as my memory tells, the books are dark, but not much darker than the movie. They were children's novels, after all.

There is going to be a Jabberwock? I'm all disappointed now. I liked not knowing what a Jabberwock looks like and as soon as I see the movie, good or bad, that will become my mental picture of a Jabberwock.

well just because it is meant for children doesn't mean it isn't dark. Have you read the fairy tales by the brothers Grimm? I know adults I wouldn't tell those stories too.

Though from what Bells said sounds like it too went through adaption decay. Probably the more recent versions of the book have been made to more resemble the movie just as they did after Disney made movies of many old stories.
