I'm just surprised that I actually believed they'd have a character die and stay dead as opposed to spending an entire story arc retconning it.

I also like the pair of shields, too. Cause that makes sense.

I'm surprised he stayed dead as long as he did to be honest. Secret Invasion made sure people realized Captain America was still alive by having a Skrull copy of him around because of the whole subject must be alive in order to have a skrull copy him.
