Last week brought highly encouraging signs for Zone of the Enders fans, as Kojima Productions president Hideo Kojima said in a PlayStation Blog video that they "are really considering" making a third entry in the series. He refers to his decision to move Z.O.E.2's release from its original date in the holiday season of 2002, to February 2003. The idea was to move it out of the way of all the other big holiday releases at the time, but then many other big 2002 holiday releases were moved into early 2003 as well, and suddenly Z.O.E.2 was once again faced with stiff competition (a situation that sounds familiar, doesn't it, 2009 holiday game shoppers?).

"Everything was due to an error by me, the producer," Kojima admits. "At that time, if I hadn't made a mistake with the release date, [Z.O.E.2] might have ended up a major Kojima Productions title to follow MGS, still seeing development as a series."

But the past is the past, Z.O.E. fans, so let's look to the future: Kojima will make Zone of the Enders 3. There's just no telling when yet.

Yes he's going to go through with it! Awesome, I wonder if we'll get to use Naked Jehuty at the start or if Jehuty will be back to normal in that one. Also I wonder if it'll be a complete sequel to the second game or an entirely game with a new cast and a new Orbital Frame as the main (you know, like the FF series).

I always like these threads, which show up every half year it seems, because I've never played either ZoE, so I know that while you guys are all being upset/excited that ZoE3 isn't/is happening ever/eventually, I can just go on with my life.

At least now we know when MGS 16 is coming out.

Not too long ago Kojima said that he would like to stop making MGS games, and if fans said out loud that he didn't have to it would help. Now he is telling that he would really like to work on ZoE but he doesn't know when it will possible.

It's a company. As much as it sucks, it isn't about what video games people say they want, or even what the director may want to make, it's about what will make them gobs and gobs of cash. MGS will make them gobs and gobs of cash so that is why they are making that instead of a sequel to a game that didn't sell very well.
