TV Summer Television Roundup

So I was originally going to make a thread specifically about Persons Unknown, but then I realized that not only does it not have the substance to sustain a thread, but all of summer television programming combined could barely support a thread. So this is that thread.

Persons Unknown - I'll be honest, I'm sure the reason I'm watching is the same as almost every other person watching: Lost is over. Sure, it might just be methadone for something I'd actually want, but it's got the guy who wrote Usual Suspects running it and it's going to be wrapped up in a few months, so why not stick around and see why all of these random people got dropped into the middle of nowhere and how they escape? And really, it's not that bad. It's got a tackily wacky vibe, from the rundown sets and costumes to the dialog and general plot. You can see 95% of the twists coming from a mile away, but the stuff that does blindside you is charmingly semi-interesting, whether it be the out-of-nowhere Chinese restaraunt or how every escape route is either blocked by forcefields, gas, or poisonous gas forcefields. And just to circle back to that dialog, but man can it get corny-good.

Last Comic Standing - Question: Has general stand up comedy gotten worse, or has my discovery of Louis C.K. and other actual funny people removed the scales from my eyes? Because I remember watching the first season and loving it, but man, this season is at least 90% shit.

True Blood - Four Words, Two Sentences: Nazi Werewolves. Exorcist Hatefucking. It's still shitty, but at least it's finally graduated to turn your brain off enjoyable.

Burn Notice - Probably deserves it's own thread, but this early in the season and with the master plot a little murky it would just be a bunch of "Ohman, how cool was [Spy Thing of the Week]" posts.(But seriously, the toaster safebuster? How cool was that?) I will say that I like the addition of the new guy, as the four man band is rolling along pretty smoothly.

Top Chef - Hey, it's in D.C.! Hopefully they'll actually go to some restaurants and places that I can afford on crippling student loans. So far it looks like it'll be mostly tipping toward the drama side of the "Skill-Drama" continuum of reality shows, which is understandable since they probably tapped out on Skill last year, but it's still Top Chef drama, so it's more about machinations around the competitions than like sex and shit. I'm calling Alex as the dark horse surprise winner.

Anybody else watching things this summer?

Next Food Network Star, NCIS (Regular and LA), and Mythbusters for the most part.

Wanting to check out Big Dangerious Rocket Showdown though.

Is there a way to make it forced choosing to pick a tag before you post, beyond it being a rule for some reason? Like, the forum literally won't post it until you pick one? Because honestly, I have it in the same blind spot as smilies.

Something I forgot to add:

Top Gear - 15th season, what what!? Gotta say, I approve of the mass celeb track time event. Not that the doings of the British aren't mahvalously entertaining, but there are already too many instances of references to things relevant only to one side of the pond that an entire in depth segment about one Brit B-Lister (which is like a D/F-Lister in reality) tends to drag down the proceedings. Also, the only thing that could have made the Robin segment better was the liberal application of dropped pianos.

Happy Town is an interesting if unsettling series this summer. It is kind of like criminal minds meets the X-files, only the law enforcement is either incompetant or just as twisted as the "Magic Man". So check it out, although you should probably watch something light right after to get a good night's sleep.

Well apparently ABC decided to stop making this show. Figures, the only show this that catches my interest this summer, and they cancel it after five episodes.
