I've often dismissed these games in favor of the latest mainstream title, but Call Of Duty, Battlefield, Modern Warfare have all seemed appealing to me at one point in time. But now that that Starcraft thing is slowing down, the new ads are for Battlefield 4.
Granted, you know, it looks a little pre-rendered cinematic trailer, but what I want to know is whether or not these supposedly realistic shooters are worth it? |

On campaigns:
The original Call of Duty, and its expansion pack United Offensive, were quite good. Like most shooters, they probably don't age all that well, so grain of salt. Call of Duty 4 was very good. The rest....ennnnh. On multiplayer: casual arena shooters ---> the last five CODs awesome warfare battlefields ---> BF3 |

i remember the first Black Ops being physically exhausting for me... not in a good way, mind you. the game simply made me feel drained... like i was running on quicksand towards a weak ending....
If all you want are online FPS to play multiplayer there are several free ones that offer you fantastic content. If you want a great First person shooter single player experience... i would be cautious. |

Most of them are like Summer blockbusters. They come they go and they don't really leave much behind. Twenty minutes after playing BlackOps I forgot all but the barebones of the plot. None of the characters really stood out or did anything (except that one guy in the sunglasses because he always was wearing the same sunglasses through out the ages.).
The sad part is that Cod4 was actually good. the plot was a bit deeper and it had one scene that made my Near perfectionist story hating FPS friend nearly break down and cry for a character. Otherwise the following cods were just meh or terrible only to serve as a Multiplayer update for Cod4 with "story" The multiplayer is filled with ether jurks, screamers or guys that have proteged so many times that they have some sort of freaky ESP in the game. Meaning that getting in as a new player in the COD series is like swimming in a piranha pool at feeding time. You will get torn to bits if you don't know what your doing. Battle field's story is arguably meh or even less memorable then COD (except the Bad Company 1...There was some memorable scenes in that). Its games are also mostly focused on its mulitplayer. but this multiplayer you can actually be useful in. BF's gameplay is slower then Cods as well as more tactical. Good players still will tear you up but due to the shear size of some of the maps you will rarely run into them . Also because of the importance of teamwork you will never really run into them alone. The game will however strain your eyes. As you need to spot the enemy in camo before a arrow points them out.

Yahtzee seemed to think Spec Ops: The Line was pretty rad.

and indeed it is. Its a competent shooter (although with not much innovation) and a really fantastic storytelling method in there. THAT game you can buy without fear, its the genuine sleeper hit.

Yo, The Line is by all accounts some serious next-level shit that has nothing remotely in common with Call of Duty, Battlefield or Modern Warfare, and probably a better option than all of them put together.
That's my estimation not having played either, of course. If you've got the money, you might want the summer blockbuster movies rather than, say, Jacob's Ladder four out of five times anyway.

if you CAN play spec ops the line without knowing ANYTHING about it, do -that-. Actually having information on the game before playing will lessen your experience with it. Its is that kind of game.

Spec Ops: The Line had pretty mediocre gameplay but the story is like, I dunno, if games had Oscars or something? I mean, obviously not on the same level, but for a game, it's supposed to be pulled off amazingly well in the drama department. I have been avoiding spoilers for it since I might actually go and get it someday. Someday...
I heard you might as well play it on Easy, though, since, again, the gameplay is just annoying sometimes and the plot is the reason to play it. |

Maybe? Dude, please give yourself the gift of gaming...
http://www.gamefly.com/Download-BioS.../#.UVuEX5OsiSo Also, as far as shooters go... you can get Red Orchestra 1 and 2 for $1 buck right now... http://www.humblebundle.com/weekly Pay 2.90 and you get Killing floor with ALL the DLC's... i say this is a much better package of games than any COD or BLOPS MOH BBQ WTF shooters we have been getting in the last couple of years... |
