Making it happen.

I figured it'd be nice to have a dedicated thread lying around wherein we could share video game bargains, when they occur outside of the usual Steam Summer/Winter megasales.
For instance, the sale that has prompted this particular idea? Civ IV Complete, Civ V (+Gods and Kings), and X-COM: Enemy Unknown are collectively on sale for the incredible price of twenty dollars. Any one of these games alone would cost at least that much normally, but not today. Amazon has a number of other deals effective till midnight May 31st, but I thought that particular deal was the most noteworthy.

This right here is one of the very best to keep track of bundles. Specially indie. Also i want to take the opportunity to say that i've grown to HATE Amazon deals. Cause they usually have awesome Steam deals, but they don't sell outside of the US. even online. Which is bullshit. So, yeah, i have to watch a bunch of great opportunities pass by thanks to amazon. I Know there is a bypass to purchase there, but i wouldn't want to risk my account for this... |

I find http://savygamer.co.uk/ an excellent site to use for my Brit-centric purposes.
To take the topic title more literally, you should also pick up the Alan Wake Humble Weekly Sale before it expires later today. I haven't (yet, probably will soon) tried it myself, but it's very easy to circumvent if you're going for their digital downloads. Simply use your normal account, but add an US billing address. Pick a random hotel or park or something, maybe in a zero tax sales state just to be super-duper safe. Nothing gets sent there, you'll be downloading from the Amazon US site.

There's also the usual indie bundle at humblebundle.com but they have some pretty amazing games this time around (Hotline Miami, Awesomenauts, Thomas Was Alone, Capsized, Little Inferno, Proteus, Dear Esther).
I also managed to nab Simcity 4 for only $5 as a result of this thread so thanks for that as well. |

I have a friend that buys all his games on Russian Steam store because it's always cheaper, but his entire account was setup this way, so he should be fine... myself on the other hand, i dunno if steam can track that i'm purchasing games outside of the zone im "allowed" to... |

Bells when you buy the game off Amazon US and it requries steam, they give you a steam code. Steam then registers this as a retail version of the game, as if you bought a phyiscal copy. Steam has no way of knowing you circumvented Amazon's region bullshit. If for some reason Steam goes "this guy has a US code on a non-US account" you can just say you won it on steamgifts.com, or an american friend bought it for you.
Speaking of steamgifts, it's filled with key giveaways and russians (meaning russians get US versions of games, and vice versa, as long as the game isn't region-locked) and as far as I know nobody has had any problems. Also, I personally circumvented the Amazon region bullshit to grab Saints Row 3 a while back, and I think another game but I don't remember, and I haven't had any problems.

You could always have a separate steam account for American digital deals, right? Then if it gets locked, you're only affecting some of the games you couldn't have bought anyway.

How insane? HOW ABOUT TELLTALE BUNDLE FOR A DOLLAR? HOW ABOUT ALL THAT PLUS THE WALKING DEAD FOR UNDER 5 BUCKS!? HOW ABOUT IT HUHHHHH? The Walking Dead (Steam Only) Back to the Future: The Game Sam & Max: Devil’s Playhouse Poker Night at the Inventory Hector: Badge of Carnage! Puzzle Agent 1 & 2 Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Adventures (Windows Only) All that for a $4.12 . This is borderline unfair with the developers. This is a crazy awesome deal that is going around for the next 6 days. If you have some of these games i urge you to BUY IT ANYWAY and give the extras as gifts to friends, you help charity and make some people happy. |
