Default People with Numbers in their names...

I don't mean to be insulting, but I can't help it.

I just wonder why people use a number in their names. I know that AOL & Hotmail assign numbers, but on the forums, we get to choose our names, and unless there's 512 Teds before you, there's no need to be Ted513.

I mean, sure you bring a bit of joy into my heart every time I see one of your posts, mostly because I mock you in my mind. But, hasn't it even crossed your mind to seek out a Mod & pester him/her about getting your number removed?

But maybe I'm wrong, maybe there's a reason why you choose to retain your number. Maybe you're trying to imply you're a movie sequel, or some sort of clone.

Anyway, this is just something I've needed to get off my chest for a while, and this seemed like the best place to share. That, and I felt like ranting stupidly.

Stand up proud people, and shout it out with pride! I AM NOT A NUMBER, I AM A HUMAN BEING! Then let me laugh at you outright. (10 points if you get the reference.)

Y`know SWB, that's a lot of pretty good points there. What's it doing in Off-Topic?

Reference : The Simpsons, by any chance?

It's traditional. I just named myself Cyclone231 once (on B.net) and ended up with this as my internal moniker. Plus, now there's a guy running around here with an account named Cyclone. And it's not like I can beat that, you know? Really, what's the difference between Cyclone231 and Cyclone2?

I alas am 0Zero0 because Zero seems to be taken too often. And sometimes 0Zero0 is taken too. In that case, I'm oZ320o. Why? I'm not sure. I just didn't want Zero516. And I needed something that was symmetrical in my name. Consequently, I am now nicknamed on bnet, "Triple Zero." After this event, I sighed and weeped for being compared to that awful game.

If a name I want is taken, I just get creative and come up with something totally original.

If you're known as a certain name EVERYWHERE you go, like myself, and the name you want is taken, sometimes it's the only way to go about getting the name that you need to still be recognised in all your glory.

Many years ago, I recall attempting to register the actual English word as my user name with my ISP and running into problems. I went this way with the "alterations" and have stuck with this name since. If you see it on other forums, in video games, or things like that, there's probably a better than fifty-percent chance it's me. I have come across one person who read my profile and then used my username on one other forum and a Spanish blog whose user has signed up with the nick.

It's not so cool, but it's not like I can do anything, nor really should... Anyway, I've had it for so long that I've grown to like the zero and always keep it.

Hahaha...I do understand that, once you establish that numbered name, you use it everywhere. But WHY would establish Ted513 in the first place?!
