I am a one sided person when it comes to anime, it is not that I like violence it is that I like emotions. I do not watch the happy go lucky anime, I do not enjoy anime like Dragonball/Z/GT series, you will find me in a much darker section.
In the more action section I watch shows like Wolf's Rain (beautifully written anime, one of the greatest I have seen, an incredibly sad ending) Berserk (yes it is full of violence and gore, but the last episode is enough to make you cry, watch for yourself if you havent seen, I will not spoil it, but it is very sad) X/1999 (It is called Clamp X because yes it was released in 1999, yes it is a movie, and yes X Japan (formerly known as X) had music in it. The songs were not written for the movie, X had disbanded in 1997 and their guitarist hide was dead in 1998, the songs were around for many years before the anime. Maybe I am one sided for this one too much because of X's music but we all have a selling point) Of course there are the staple Cowboy Bebop and Trigun, which I have not seen much of either series, but will eventually get around to it one day, possibly. Then comes a more emotional yet somewhat less violent anime (still fairly violent) Angel Sanctuary, yes there are so many bad topics in it like Angels and Demons and Incest and the list goes on, but in the promotional video the heroes (and villain) of the anime are the members of X Japan, and the song Rusty Nail is its theme song, so it is definatly worth viewing in my opinion, though again just like X/1999 I am one sided in this. I was wondering what emotional anime reccomendations you had, I dont want someone saying "DBZ ROXXORZ" (which I am glad to announce I havent seen anyone THAT low on the intellectual chain at this forum yet) I am talking emotionally charged shows. (I already know about Serial Experiment Lain, I listen to Glay at times being they are assosciated with Yoshiki from X Japan it was only a matter of time until I heard them) I do not care if it is sad, I do not cry but I love the feeling of my heart being wrenched when something is incredibly sad, I just want to see more emotionally charged shows.

I do get a sort of emotional charge out of stuff like DBZ (the fighting oriented ones). Well, that's only if you consider an adrenaline rush emotions.
I especially like Inuyasha and Rurouni Kenshin. They're long running, which lets me get more attached to the characters and have more of a response to what happens to them. But you've probably already seen those, so it's not much of a suggestion.

I have never seen InuYasha, but I have seen the Rouroni Kenshin OVAs, and I must say that they were very well done. I forgot abou those ones, maybe because it has been so long since I viewed them. I figured I would remember considering I want the soundtrack for the violin/piano duet version of X Japan's song Crucify My Love
I saw an advert for InuYasha once, but it seemed like it was either defined for c hildren, or was translated horribly thanks to the US translation laws (they almost banned Final Fantasy IV *2 SNES*) and became no more than a childrens show

You know, I always found that X the movie and Shakespeare’s plays had a lot in common. Of course, this could only be because of what happens to all the cast by the end of the show...
Fullmetal Alchemist has some really gut wrenching parts in it but I can't tell you them because they're major spoilers. However, after you've watched half the series, this FMA music video becomes very haunting.

would you consider FLCL emotional or just confusing? It was artistic to say the least

My favorite sad anime is Grave of the Fireflies. It's wrenching because it's so real.

For some oddball reason, I found Armitage III's climax to be quite emotional. There was something very touching in the end as Armitage and Syllabus(sp?) fought a seemingly hopeless battle against a mass battalion in the midst of the bigotry that surrounded them as the law was passed to deny robots equal rights, or something of that nature. It's been a few years. There were a few others that probably had some impact on me like that as well, but none others really stand out like that. I don't watch enough anime these days...

I never said it was, but thanks to poorly made regulations involving translations (dont much worse things come out IN the US anyways?) and bad voice acting I generally remain a skeptic about any anime, even shows that were once good once the voice acting is done seem no better than a childs show
If you doubt me, look at Sailor Moon which was not made for children origionally, but in the US it was viewed as such and modified to suit childrens needs moreso than adults It isn't so much the show being meant for, as compared to how much was it ruined... its on YTV, so come on... only DECENT show (with decent voice acting) was Gundam Wing which got next-to-no air time
