Dunno bout the Stunky, as far as Budew is concerned...

1) Vitamins. Yeah, they add ten EVs per vitamin, but as long as you're selective on the ones you use (and you have the cash to spare) go for it.

2) Veilstone City has a girl in a house that will give your Pokemon a massage. This will boost the happiness rating, and you will get one seemingly random Accessory for your Fashion Case. You can do this once per day.

3) I think Rare Candies also boost happiness.

4) Have your Pokemon hold a Soothe Bell. This doubles the happiness gain of each and every method.

5) Lastly, just walking around with it in your party gives it small boosts to happiness.

After you hit max happiness (You can check with the Happiness Checker app that you get in Solaceon Town's Pokemon Center; two hearts shows high happiness, two HUEG hearts is max happiness) you just need to raise your Pokemon's level by one and Presto Change-o! You'll have a Roselia. Roserade after Shiny Stone.

Awesome thanks. I am still trying to get my DS online.

By the way, what would you rate Wooper and Croagunk?

By the way, what would you rate Wooper and Croagunk?

Wooper is a poor man's Barboach. Croagunk, while 4x weak to Psychics, has some good moves, and isn't a bad Fighting type. Also, I added in a bit about poffins in that last post I made.

Why did I not think of that, first and foremost?
Well, he apparently can't get an Eevee anytime soon anyway, so I guess it's not really a viable option for him.

Grass Fashion Designer is so smug I want to punch him.
Fire Sprinting Pig is so retarded I want to punch him.
Water Gingerbread Man is so ugly I want to punch him.

The starter is getting the fuck out of my party as soon as I get a seventh Pokeyman.

The female trainer design is the best of all Gens so far.
The male trainer design is better than Gen III's and IV's.

Tyra Banks Treecko is smug as FUCK, BURNING BACON is so fucking adorable I might not evolve it, and I have no idea what the fuck that Water monstrosity is. Polar Bear? Snowman? Crappy Piplup redesign?

Also, digging the trainer designs.

Thanks to /v/, I now know what I will be calling BURNING BACON: Larfleeze. FUCK YES.

I think the water starter is an otter.

Also, there goes any idea of an older protagonist this time around(That and the concept art I saw and posted was either unused or totally bogus).

I dunno, I think they're at least as good as the Gen IV starters. And better than Gen III.

Basically, I think they're okay and they fit with the newer Pokemon style. Could be worse.

According to Corocoro, these protagonists are older than any of the previous ones.

As for the starters, SMUGLEAF (Tsutaja) is a "Grass Snake," PIGNITION (Pokabu) is a "Fire Pig," and IDONTEVEN (Mijumaru) is a "Sea Otter." I'm pretty much torn between SMUGLEAF and BURNING BACON at this point. They both seem like complete Bros.

Damn those trainers have got big hair. Guy looks like he should be in some unshaven indie rock band and the girl looks like she should be working at a beauty salon or something. Both are good though, unlike beret boy from DPP. On the pokemon, I like the fire pig, though the water otter thing is cool too. And yeah tree lizard looks ridiculously smug so not using that unless it gets a evolution way better than it's first stage like Sceptile and Torterra, or the others get really lame ones, like Meganium.

So do we know anything about the region like what part of Japan it's based on or what kind of environment it has? That usually gives some details about what pokemon to expect.

It's not a panda, Mac.
It's got flippers and... a beaver-like tail?

I'm leaning towards a platypus, really, but the head doesn't make sense.

I dunno fire pig looks pretty great really. Only water otter looks really damn weird but I think they were going for a sort of snowman look. Wonder if it will have water/ice typing?

Also I've got no problem with unshaven, currently am very much unshaven myself, tend only to clip it to stop chinbeard forming. Also very much in need of a hair cut, but I'm reluctant to go as it currently keeps my ears warm pretty well.

According to the scan, the first Generation V games will be set in the region known as 「イッシュ」 Isshu, which is quite a distance away from all previous regions. The magazine scan implies that the region is a foreign place that must be traveled to by boat or airplane. Legendary Pok?mon reports that a new location titled 「ヒウンシティ」Hiun City will possibly be in the games, though this has yet to be confirmed via scan.

People are speculating that it's gonna be China or Northeastern America.

But yeah I like the Grass, Water, Fire starters in that order. All I'm asking for is a Grass starter that is a decent Special Attacker, is that too much to ask?

PS: No Sceptile doesn't count.

http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/dp/277.png By far my #1, hence the gigantic FUCK YOU in the Emerald LP thread. Love you Ecks :P

http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/dp/254.png Y'know, as much as I hated 3rd gen for some of their lazy pokemon designs (Hariyama comes to mind), there were some legitimately badass pokes. Sceptile and Swellow are prime examples.

http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/dp/37.png Back when Pokemon first came out, my friends and I all argued over who's favorite was the best. Out of all the 'Mons in the show, Vulpix stood out for me. Why? Hell if I know.

http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/dp/335.png While not as awesome as Vulpix, Zangoose is still a favorite. He fared better than Groudon in the Elite Four, and they were about the same level!

http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/dp/35.png If you've played Pokemon Stadium, you know why I love Clefairy. If not, you're welcome (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6b-5rp5m_WI).

Those're my top five. Despite that nothing but Gens 1 and 3 being there, 2 and 4 are my favorite generations of games. Go figure.

It's actually Zoroark's "illusion" ability, meaning that it's the other way around. I think they were showing you the event battle that happens upon bringing a legendary dog (or all of them, I don't know for sure) from HG/SS into B/W.

Oh man, oh man, oh man...

Back when it was just me and Pokemon Gold, I was going through Mt. Mortar when I ran into my first shiny pokemon ever: A Zubat. I caught it, and he was a part of my team and my favorite out of all of them even after it evolved into a funny looking pink Crobat. But then Gen III rolled around and there was no importing from the previous games and I grew out of Pokemon (until I became an adult and it became fun again, no idea how that works but hey Gen IV!)...

So now today, I was EV Training my Dratini in Mt. Mortar in my brand new shiny Soul Silver, when what do I run into?

That said, I have like four Rapid Spinners... most of which are the water type. Why is it that water types learn Rapid Spin so much? I can rarely find it on anything that's not Water.

Seriously: Staryu/Starmie, Squirtle/Wartortle/Blastoise, Omanyte/Omastar (Egg Move), Kabuto/Kabutops (Also Egg Move), Tentacool/Tentacruel (Egg Move Again), etcetera, etcetera.

LOTS of Water type Rapid Spinners. I mean, it IS pretty obvious in at least Staryu's line and Squirtle's line as to why THEY have it... and the whole Egg Move thing makes sense in context as well (Tentacool/cruel spinning their tentacles, Omanyte/star retreating into shell, spinning it around, though Kabuto/ps is a bit of a stretch...)

Lost to Lance after just barely beating the Elite Four.

Given how easy this game was overall so far, I was a bit surprised when Lance swept my entire team with a LV49 Dragonite. Using only... four moves, actually. I thought it was five, but Walken (my Crobat) was taken out by Gyarados beforehand.

EDIT: Just managed to beat him. It was a ridiculously tense match, too. The Gyarados, Aerodactyl, and even the first two Dragonites went down much easier than just Gyarados alone from the last attempt. Then the final Dragonite came out and swept most of my team. I used Revives to stop myself from losing outright, and found that it was slow enough that my Feraligatr could hit it with Ice Fang at least once before going down, leaving me with only my Dragonair w/Dragon Rush.

After like ten minutes of debating whether or not to try to finish it off with her, I just Max Revive'd Feraligatr instead and proceeded to take out it and Charizard in three moves. Now I just need to beat the Kanto section and I can go back to thinking up fun doubles teams.

As far as this one is concerned, the EV's are split directly in half, correct? Might take longer, but not as long as attempting to grind it all up while constantly reviving the Larvitar.

As for your suggestion, POS... that could work also, but I'd have to do the math for the other EVs separately on paper (I EV train on Diamond, Counter app is INVALUABLE.)

He's telling the truth, at least for Gen 4 (I know nothing about EV training in Gen 3). EVs are never divided, as it would otherwise cause issues with seperating a single EV (Like, say, Goldeen's 1 Attack EV) between six pokemon. Instead, everyone who gets experience gets the base EV amount (Plus anything from items like Macho Brace, Power Anklet, etc.).

Great Cartoonist
05-26-2010, 10:12 PM
A Pokemon with an EXP share should get the same amount of base EV points as if it had already participated in battle. It's not as efficient as using a Macho Brace or any of those Power weights, but there's less work involved.

Also, I do believe that Gen 4 uses the same EV system as in Gen 3.

A minor tip: Keep your EVs exactly divisible by 4 so that you can allocate any remaining points to other stats. 252 EV is effectively the same as 255 EV.

And farm lots of EV-reducing berries in case you mess up somewhere.

I knew the bit about divisible by four. At max you can only get 63 extra points in a stat, as 255 is the max you can put in one stat, and four points is equal to 1 stat point, etc. etc. Most of the EV spreads I use I pull from Smogon. I may alter the movesets, but I generally use what works, and Smogon, despite the pseudo-tourneytarding they do over there, works.

I'm working on the EV dump berries as we speak, but they take about a day to mature... good thing they drop five berries per plant or it would take forever.

So if I did the Power Item/Swap for stronger mon strategy... Larvitar would still get the ten points from the kill?

Not that this matters to many, but Latias has been banned to the Uber tier. Smogon front page, though I can't confirm WHY.

Salamence seems likely to follow, as Smogonites are currently playtesting the metagame without him to see if it's more balanced. Discussion is currently ocurring in this thread (http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72048).

I gotta say, I am a little disappointed. Latias was one of the few legendaries that was OU worthy that I could still use, though I didn't use it often. Though now that it's banned, a couple of the things it countered (like Breloom, for example) are now TOTALLY viable in OU. A few other things are also enjoying some much needed usage now that Salamence has been removed from the suspect ladder, though I'll be irritated if it DOES get the banhammer, as a few friends of mine play Smogon rules, and unless I asked for Ubers, Golondrina would not get any usage whatsoever.

EDIT: apparently without Latias or Salamence, everyone's putting together stall teams. While I do enjoy stall teams, especially Hail stall, I can't say I'd enjoy having to constantly break through everyone in every match.

Man, I still play Shoddy every now and then (An hour or two once or twice a week), and I gotta admit Latias didn't seem THAT bad (I hate Jirachi FAR more because parahax feels like you lost because your opponent got lucky, not because he outsmarted you). CM Latias is certainly tough to break without a good Dark type (Something OU really lacks outside Tyranitar, and which Latias is ready for most times), but UGH MORE HAIL STALL. Hail stall has been getting more common BEFORE this ban, I don't even want to look at Smogon right now T.T

It's sad not because people are teling you how to play, it's sad because to get to this point, the point of tiers and shit, you honestly have to become obsessed with the game to the point where you're no longer actually having fun. It has become serious business. Pokemon. Fighting little cute critters in rockem' sockem' combat. They are so obsessed with it they have to calculate, weigh, categorize, tabulate, and effectively suck all the fucking fun out of the experience.

And that is sad and pathetic like... something i cannot even fathom.Donomni hit the nail right on the head. I was disappointed myself by the fact that Latias was banned to Ubers. No, Mike, you're missing the point. Like, REALLY fucking hard. The reason I'm interested in tiers in pokemon? The reason I participate in stuff like Smogon? Because I thoroughly fucking enjoy the games. Do you seriously think I'd put so many hours into something I hate?

You've got some idea in your head that because I can look at a list of tiers and, god forbid, play with other people who have seen those tiers and agree to follow them with me, that I'm not enjoying the game anymore. Or fuck, even worse, you seem to think that because I enjoy the tiers in the game that somehow I'm out to fucking ruin the game for you. Because if you can't enjoy a game MY way, clearly you're doing it wrong. Actually, that last sentence seems to be the idea you're sharing; if I don't play how Mike motherfucking McC plays Pokemon, maybe I'm not a REAL fan of Pokemon.

Wow I was all set to come in again and start arguing the competitive side. Nice to see it's been done for me. Laziness: 1, Hard Work: Infinity!

Yeah, just 'cause I recognize that tiers exist, and that it's only fair to enforce them when it comes to competitions, doesn't mean I don't also enjoy the game. The only time I didn't enjoy a game despite immersing myself in the competitive scene was Brawl, and that's because Brawl is terrible.

Also, ranting about people trying to enforce bans during friendly play is ridiculous, sir. While it's certainly frowned upon to waltz into a non-competitive battle with a team of six ubers, nobody in their right mind is going to say you're breaking any rules, because you aren't. Rules outside of what the game itself enforces should only ever apply during actual competitions.

Anywhooo, I'm raising Dragonites now on the off chance that they'll be useful in taking out Red. Just the one I'd been using since Goldenrod City when it was a Dratini has turned out useful due to Dragon Dance and Dragon Rush/Aqua Tail. Well, until everyone and their mother started whipping out Ice Punches and Blizzards. Mmm, Blizzards...

I'd like to go on the record as saying Mike's the one who fucking started the argument.

Now that that's out of the way... I can totally play without using tiers or clauses. But it is the HEIGHT of douchebaggery to go into a six-on-six using nothing but legendaries all holding Brightpowder or some such nonsense. Hence why people normally throw in a couple of rules before playing. Y'know, the same way you tell your bestest buddy in the whole wide world right before you start a game of Monopoly that s/he's not allowed to use bank money if they're gonna play and be banker.

Red uses lots of Blizzards

Yeah, given that it's 100% accurate in Hail, and Mt. Silver's peak is under a hailstorm... yeah, makes sense he'd abuse the hell out of it. Lance'll do the same with Thunder if you let his Gyarados get a Rain Dance off.

Just picked up SoulSilver last week. The last time I played any Pokemon was the original Silver and I must say, it still has not gotten old. Just wanted a quick opinion though. How sound would my team be if I planned on going for an all status-effect line up. I'm thinking Meganium, Polywrath, Onyx, Flareon (or any fire type) and two other normal/ground types. That way I would have the opportunity to poison/burn/bind/confuse any of the opponent's Pokemon that give me a hard time and just sit back, heal with either synchronize or roost, increase my defense and let the effects do the work for me while throwing in a few tackles here and there.

I'm going to now try going back through this entire thread to see what I've missed over the past year. :(

Okay, quick pokemon question:

So I'm rather new to this whole "pokemon get'n it on" thing as I've only just recently decided to begin joining the rest of you in the 21st century of pokemon gaming. I have acquired a copy of Fire Red to help aclimate me to the new fangled ways you kids play pokemon these days and, having trounced the Elite Four and begun the bonus content of the Sevii Islands, I have come across the Daycare Center/Pokemon Sex Pit. Now, I've looked up some breeding info on Bulbapedia and think for my first try I'm going to see if I can't churn out a Pikachu with Volt Tackle.

My question is not with the breeding because that seems very straight forward. I'd just like some opinions on evolving the little shock-runt. As a product of early exposure to Ash, his Pikachu, and the power of non-evolved-love-hippy-crap, I've always found it near impossible to evolve the Pikachu that eats up the electric-type slot on my roster. Granted in the first Gen games this was hardly an issue but I guess they fixed the buggy combat system since then so now I need to know: when's the best time/level to apply the Thunder Stone? Is there a reason to let your electric rat stay cute and small forever?

Shyria Dracnoir
06-24-2010, 11:36 AM
I'll admit, all I know about that is if you have a Pikachu (and only Pikachu I think) hold a Light Ball and breed it, the offspring will know Volt Tackle.

There actually is, some wild Pikachu carry an item called a Light Ball(or something like that), which doubles Pikachu's special attack stat(and maybe it's special defence? I forget). But anyway this bonus doesn't work on Raichu's or anything else. So basically while holding one of these guys, Pikachu becomes a better attacker than Raichu.

However good luck getting one, they have like a 5% appearance rate on pikachu's, which also have a 5% appearance rate.......

Edit: It doubles both it's attack stats. Basically making the little rodent really good at quickly tearing shit up, then dying as soon as something faster or able to survive it's first attack comes along.

Tev
06-24-2010, 11:42 AM
Well I'm going to have to get a Light Ball to make a baby Pichu learn Volt Tackle anyway. What I want to know is, if that baby grows up into a Pikachu and I let it keep the Light Ball, is it technically better than a Raichu or do I need to evolve it at some point?

EDIT: Also Pikachu are like a 25% mob in the Power Plant so I'm not too worried about finding a breed sample there.

Doublepost because it seems I really do have a breeding question now:

Gave up on the Pikachu breeding program after catching about 120 Pikachu without a single Light Ball. Decided to work on some evolutions and it turns out that Swinub's evolution to Mamoswine only happens when it knows Ancient Power. According to Bulbapedia Swinub only get Ancient Power as a result of breeding with a host of pokemon including:

Diglett, Dugtrio, Wooper, Quagsire, Dunsparce, Phanpy, Donphan, Mawile, Numel, Camerupt, and Kecleon.

After looking through my Pokeboxes it seems I only had a male Dugtrio to get it on with my breeder so I tossed them into the Day Care and let them do their thing. I got an egg and walked around until it hatched and now I've got a little furry pig with Dig and not Ancient Power like it was supposed to. What exactly am I doing wrong here? Dig isn't even on Swinub's breed list.

I took out the Dugtrio and tossed in a Wooper to hope for a better result maybe. It was the only other male on the list that I had on hand.

Thadius
06-26-2010, 11:46 AM
Even easier: Take Swinub to the move tutor and have him make it remember AncientPower, then level it up.

Also, I think I have a light ball I might not be using. Or I could get one. 's not that hard for me.

BloodyMage
06-26-2010, 11:47 AM
Are you still playing FireRed? Because I'd give up now since Mamoswine doesn't exist in the generation three games of which FireRed is apart of.

If you're playing the generation four games however, then I found it a lot easier to simply evolve Swinub into Piloswine, then go find some heart scales and the guy that can teach a pokemon any move that they learn by level up. Since Piloswine learns ancient power at level 1, you can teach it that way. This is the easiest way that I've found to get a Mamoswine.

Savage Thinking

So, months and months ago, I decided to play Pokemon Emerald and try out a solo run. Which is when you play through the game using only one pokemon battle with, capturing others as HM slaves. Usually, these are done with really weak (which tend to be unevolved) pokemon, for the sake of the challenge. I did a couple before this, but decided to go all out this time. I chose to play with the statistically weakest pokemon in the game, Sunkern*. I found out that Emerald is really against grass-types, and it didn't help I was using the weakest one in the game.

* I ended up using AR cheats to capture one in the wild, as breeding one and trading it over with Grasswhistle (a sleeping move) felt cheap.

I ended up taking this run slow, as it got rather difficult. Run of the mill trainers, and even wild pokemon would be a serious threat to my Sunkern (repels were life savers). There were parts throughout the run I had to sit down and plan out how I was going to beat certain trainers, as one-shotting Sunkern was effortless to them. After doing this on and off for months, I finally beat the 8 gym leaders, and with nothing but a level 81 Sunkern, and a crap ton of items...

http://i45.tinypic.com/2vrzh1i.png

It didn't help that I couldn't defeat the champion with the tools I had, so I had to purposefully white out, go get what I needed, and go through the Elite 4 a second time. Fun, fun.

I wasn't done there, however. Once you beat the Elite 4 and champion, the champion from Ruby/Sapphire spawns in a cave, which you can go fight him. His levels are the highest in the game (outside Battle Frontier), and I figured the only way I could beat him is to raise my Sunkern up to level 100. So I ended up researching where to find Rare Candies, and fought pokemon to finally get to 100 so I could fight him. After tons, and tons, and tons of resets due to a slight mistake, miscalculation, and lucky crits...

http://i50.tinypic.com/2q03l2q.png

I was so glad I was done. So what I ended up doing was something a person with an actual brain would've done long ago: evolve him.

I'm sorry but your escapades have just caused a meltdown of my brain. If I start spewing madness, it's because that's all I have left.

Throw him into Diamond/Pearl/Platinum. See if he still wins.

After that, toss him at HeartGold/SoulSilver. Again, test him against that which is there.

You are at stage 1 of 3 of achieving Ultimate Win. Your current status is 'DAMN!' The next one is 'Aw Hell Naw!' The final win will earn you the status 'Fuck This, Where's Reality?'

Well, I could take him over to HeartGold, and see how he fares against the powered up Elite 4, then fight Red. For Platinum, it'd take awhile to set that up as I'd have to start a new file all over again. Or I could do a totally new run with a new Sunkern* in Platinum...

* And not let him learn Grasswhistle as he learns t naturally in 4th gen, and screw that, yo.

Also, I forgot mention, but most people try to make it easy on themselves by making their rival choose a starter that's weak against their solo pokemon (ie. choosing Squirtle for a Pidgey run). I, however, was having none of that! So I ended up choosing Treecko, which in the end made it way harder than it should have been.

So, Black and White are hitting Japan on Thursday, and this is the most excited I've ever been for a game, for one big reason: the Pokemon.

There are no old Pokemon in the game until after you beat it. Do you know what this means? Caves without Geodude and Zubat. Seas without Tentacool and Magikarp. YOUNGSTERS WITHOUT RATTATA. Isshu is a beautiful world.

As for the new Pokemon, almost everything revealed recently has been consistently awesome.

http://i56.tinypic.com/30t46iv.jpg Take Buffafro, for example. His signature fucking move is called Afro Break, for fuck's sake.

You'll notice I said Mushabatman was only the second creepiest. Why? Because fucking Sarcophaghost.

Your ability becomes "Mummy." As does the ability of everything that touches anything else with Mummy. Rain Dish? Gone. Drizzle? Gone. Your Scizor's precious Technician? FUCKING GONE. And he even helps out his bros. Lead with this guy. He takes a hit, the opponent gets mummy. Switch into Slaking. Opponent attacks, Slacking gets mummy, and proceeds to rape everything without having to rest every other turn.

Jesus fuck.

While a few of the new pokemon are neat, a fair number seem pretty stupid. Like whatever this is:

Because at first I was thinking I'd only enjoy it if I could read it, but then I realized that I skipped as much of the long-ass text in DPPt as I could, so...

*Looks up ways to import this mofo* Any tips? Also, suggestions for version? So far I've found playasia with the game for $65, which I'm totally willing to pay, but being a cheap bastard I have to ask if anyone found it cheaper >.>

Most of them don't look that bad. Probably one of the better generations, IMO.

Assuming those are correct (I question it simply because some of the Base Stat Totals are insanely high), this generation will basically be ALL ATTACK, ALL THE TIME.

I mean, a pokemon with 110 speed (Ties Espeon, Gengar, Froslass) has 140 attack (Which is giagntic, tying Rhyperior and beating Salamence, Dragonite, Garchomp, etc) and 112 SpA (Beating Empoleon, Salamence, Blaziken, Houndoom, etc.). Just based on the stats alone, he's one of the most offensively powerful attackers and will demolish damn near anything.

Though I have to admit, the Kamen Rider poke (#625Kirikizan, I think), is pretty much instantly my favorite for being A KAMEN RIDER POKEMON.

So guys, just learned something.

616: Chobomaki: snail wearing an iron helmet.
617: Agirudaa: Ticked-off snail ninja

588: Kaburuchi: shady-looking beetle
589: Shubarugo: bug-knight wearing an upgraded version of Chobomaki's armor.

Why does the iron-helmet snail not tun into a knight wearing the same armor?

It was intentional. To evolve Chobomaki and Kaburuchi, you have to trade one for the other. In the trading process, Kaburuchi steals Chobomaki's helmet in order to evolve, and Chobomaki is now stuck without a helmet and evolves into a really ticked-off snail.

Chobomaki evolves by stealing.

It seems interesting that the pokedex in the serebii website is jumbled up in the wrong order.

To clarify, most pokemons that don't share the same family but having a similar theme in terms of stats or so, tend to be side by side in the pokedex, especially if they are legendary.

In generation 1 for example, we had the Vaporeon, Jolteon and Flareon as one cycle of pokemon. Jynx, Electrabuzz and Magmar as another cycle with a similar set of elements. And on top of that was Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres. All the same elements sharing mostly the same theme (some differences present).

Generation 2 followed the same theme by extending the cycle to the legendary roaming pokemons, Raikou, Entei and Suicuine.

Generation 3 had the Regis. Regirock, Regice and Registeel. They also had the "Land, Sea and Sky" theme in a way with Groudon, Kyogre and Rayquaza.

Generation 4 had the Emotion pokemons Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf. >_> They missed the chance of another cycle via the evolutions of Electrivere and Magmortar but forgot to make an evolution for Jynx.

Generation 5 though... The Serebii website has a few cycles in the wrong order and/or broken the cycle they had going.

Four pokemons have the special ability Justice Heart and have the same base stats (in different order) Three of them are in a row (638, 639, 640) but the other one doesn't appear until 647 despite it being perfectly natural to be number 641.

Then there are 3 flying pokemons with VERY SIMILAR art style. Two of them however have the exact same ability and base stats but the third one doesn't. (The two matching one is 641 and 642, with the third being 645)

And lastly are the three elemental dragons which SUPRISE SUPRISE follow the same theme as the Eevee evolutions, the Elemental Punchers, the Elemental birds, and the roaming legendaries! The dragons which two of them are on cover of the boxes of Black and White! The fire counterpart (similar to magmar) and the lightning counterpart (similar to electrabuzz) both have nearly identical stats and a unique ability. Now the third one, the ice type (similar to Jynx) has fairly different stats and the not-so-special ability "Pressure". So it is even treated as unequally as Jynx was! (They are 643, 644 and 646 respectively.)

Interesting...

(Looking forward to the NEXT generation when we get pokemon #666.)

The four Justice Heart dudes.

From what I hear, they're based off of the Three Musketeers, at least superficially.

So the first three would be Athos, Porthos, and Aramis, and the fourth is D'artagnan.

But I digress. The reason the D'artagnan one is separate on the Pokédex is because he's the only Justice Heart guy to be an Event Legendary.

Sarcophaghost learns Mean Look

"Hi, you just lost your fancy-shmancy ability. Oh, and you can't run. And next round I'm thinking about Cursing you or hitting you with a Burn; how does that sound?"
