View Full Version : The "Hey there's this sweet deal y'all should know about" Thread

I figured it'd be nice to have a dedicated thread lying around wherein we could share video game bargains, when they occur outside of the usual Steam Summer/Winter megasales.
For instance, the sale that has prompted this particular idea? Civ IV Complete, Civ V (+Gods and Kings), and X-COM: Enemy Unknown (http://amzn.com/Firaxis-Complete-Pack-Online-Game/dp/B00CPBZDPE/ref=br_lf_m_1000716161_1_4_ttl/176-9574214-5315407?_encoding=UTF8&s=videogames&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-10&pf_rd_r=0CQEYADTCXFCJGRAEHKW&pf_rd_t=1401&pf_rd_p=1560484322&pf_rd_i=1000716161) are collectively on sale for the incredible price of twenty dollars. Any one of these games alone would cost at least that much normally, but not today.
Amazon has a number of other deals (http://amzn.com/gp/feature.html/ref=amb_link_376924142_3/180-4171649-9404034?ie=UTF8&docId=1000716161&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=hero-quick-promo&pf_rd_r=03JMT1BQSH1DMHEJF0SA&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=1560889282&pf_rd_i=B00CPBZDPE) effective till midnight May 31st, but I thought that particular deal was the most noteworthy.

This right here is one of the very best to keep track of bundles. Specially indie.
Also i want to take the opportunity to say that i've grown to HATE Amazon deals. Cause they usually have awesome Steam deals, but they don't sell outside of the US. even online. Which is bullshit.
So, yeah, i have to watch a bunch of great opportunities pass by thanks to amazon. I Know there is a bypass to purchase there, but i wouldn't want to risk my account for this...

I find http://savygamer.co.uk/ an excellent site to use for my Brit-centric purposes.
To take the topic title more literally, you should also pick up the Alan Wake Humble Weekly Sale before it expires later today.

I haven't (yet, probably will soon) tried it myself, but it's very easy to circumvent if you're going for their digital downloads. Simply use your normal account, but add an US billing address. Pick a random hotel or park or something, maybe in a zero tax sales state just to be super-duper safe. Nothing gets sent there, you'll be downloading from the Amazon US site.

There's also the usual indie bundle at humblebundle.com (http://www.humblebundle.com) but they have some pretty amazing games this time around (Hotline Miami, Awesomenauts, Thomas Was Alone, Capsized, Little Inferno, Proteus, Dear Esther).
I also managed to nab Simcity 4 for only $5 as a result of this thread so thanks for that as well.

My fear is just that steam gets to track that and lock my account for it. There are horror stories about this stuff on Steam forums, but i know better than to trust internet horror stories... but when you have almost 300 games in a steam account, there is no room for risk of loosing it all just to get Mark of the Ninja for $4....
I have a friend that buys all his games on Russian Steam store because it's always cheaper, but his entire account was setup this way, so he should be fine... myself on the other hand, i dunno if steam can track that i'm purchasing games outside of the zone im "allowed" to...

Bells when you buy the game off Amazon US and it requries steam, they give you a steam code. Steam then registers this as a retail version of the game, as if you bought a phyiscal copy. Steam has no way of knowing you circumvented Amazon's region bullshit. If for some reason Steam goes "this guy has a US code on a non-US account" you can just say you won it on steamgifts.com, or an american friend bought it for you.
Speaking of steamgifts, it's filled with key giveaways and russians (meaning russians get US versions of games, and vice versa, as long as the game isn't region-locked) and as far as I know nobody has had any problems.
Also, I personally circumvented the Amazon region bullshit to grab Saints Row 3 a while back, and I think another game but I don't remember, and I haven't had any problems.

Sam & Max: Devil’s Playhouse
Poker Night at the Inventory
Hector: Badge of Carnage!
Puzzle Agent 1 & 2

All that for a $4.12 . This is borderline unfair with the developers. This is a crazy awesome deal that is going around for the next 6 days. If you have some of these games i urge you to BUY IT ANYWAY and give the extras as gifts to friends, you help charity and make some people happy.

Well Dead Space 2 had that amazing humans vs necromorphs multiplayer mode, and DS3 decided to remove that in favor of co-op for some asinine reason. Plus Dead Space 2 is still slightly horror-ish, compared to the Guns McShootiness of DS3.
So I would say DS2 is worth more than DS3 and that MuMu is entirely correct in that people would be willing to pay a lot more for it.

http://www.towerofguns.com/ is probably not going to stay $7.50 forever, so get in there if you like guns and maze-like, randomly generated towers made of them.
Also graphics somewhere between Unreal and Borderlands, and buttloads of Nintendo hard evil robots to shoot with your many guns. I've played it all day without unlocking anything besides the gun you unlock by dying. 35 deaths, 3800+ shots fired, 0 victories; at this point my motive to get you to play it is mostly so I have someone to commiserate with.

The Prepare to Die edition's expansion is pretty great. The second boss fight in the DLC area is one of my favorite in the game.
Pretty much every part of the DLC is great except those Dark Orbs that are cheaty cheats.
Dark Souls is also pretty great if you're into discovering a new area, carefully adapting to it and its denizens and occasionaly be interrupt by a dick and die.
You might play on offline or always Hollow(Good luck on DS2) but where's the fun in that? Sometimes you might not even die first!
If you're interested in watching Aeris dying again but had qualms about the current state of the OST, Square "updated" the game to the original PS1 music.
It's a Capcom Weekend so here's the general warning:
Do not Buy Devil May Cry 3. Do NOT buy Devil May Cry 3.
It's spectacular game and some still speculate it was the best in the series, but the PC port is abysmal.
You may buy DMC4 is you're up to it, it's kinda of half of a game but still enjoyable nonetheless.
edit: By the way, Fairy Bloom Freesia is a cute little game where you rack up killer combos so that's a definite buy at this price.
The eXceed collection is good for STG fans. The first one is kinda poor but the second is a fun Ikaruga clone and the third is a competent danmaku shooter. Don't worry about missing out on the story as it's paper-thin and seems to be there just to explain why anime girls are shooting each other. Good music.
(Also, you'd be supporting STGs in general AND doujin imports, so good news all around)

If you buy Steam games on amazon go there RIGHT NOW.
I don't know if there is some sort of promotion or bug but stuff is happening right now.
I went to get Aliens Colonial marines for steam (cause it was 1,99 so why not have a laugh...) and the final purchase came out... 0.00 free.
So... well, ok. Got me a bonus. I thought it was some points deal from previous purchase or whatever.
BUT... then i tried to get Assassin's Creed 4 Season Pass... and it had a promotional discout of $8 on it. Making it cheaper than everywhere else.
So i started experimenting... EVERYTHING has that promotional bonus.
For those keeping tabs at home, that means that any game up to $8 usd on amazon right now is FREE.
Just got Dishonored. Free. $0.00 steam key delivered to my account. Final Fantasy 8? 3 Dollars. Fallout 3 game of the year edition? $3 .
So, really... go check it out right now.

The Steam frontpage continues to be glitchy when new sales go up. I got Bioshock Infinite Season Pass for $5 about a minute after the sale started. Considering they charge $15 per episode of Burial At Sea, this was a pretty great deal. Seemed too great. And within a few minutes, all the DLC went to base price.
Either it's a door-crasher, or they goof with regularity. But definitely keep an eye on ludicrous discounts in the first few minutes.
Steam is sure to glitch at least once during a big sale, I got Dishonored GOTY for $3 during the last sale and I remember Sleeping Dogs getting a 90-something percent discount last year.
Defender's Quest (http://store.steampowered.com/app/218410/) is at 90% off right now- I don't like tower defence and LOVED DQ so I'd strongly urge you to give the demo a go at least since that's a great price for a 40+ hour title.
The current Indie Gala (http://www.indiegala.com/) has Deadly Premonition, Tales of Maj'Eyal and others games for less than $6.
Redshirt, and other games, for 1$ at Groupees (http://groupees.com/bm11).

You folks probably all know this already, but for a week or so now the humble bundle has been Sid Meier games, with Civ V and its expansions available if you meet the average price or beat $15 (not sure how they do non-US currencies over there).
I saw this when it was still closer to five bucks, but I am not a huge Civ player and have absolutely no interest in the other games offered for the bundle. But I do have several friends who play Civ V and want me to get in on it, so I've been keeping my eye on it. The average has risen to nearly ten dollars by now, but they have added additional bonus content.

The current Humble Bundle (https://www.humblebundle.com/) is spectacular, Guacamelee and Dust are both great metroidvanias and Swapper is a neat plataformer with claymation visuals. I can't vouch personally for the BTA games, but Antichamber supposedly is a "think outside the box" puzzle game and Monaco is a indie Payday on crack.

I can speak for the beat the average games.
Antichamber supposedly is a "think outside the box" puzzle game and Monaco is a indie Payday on crack.
This is basically correct.
Antichamber is a fantastic puzzle game. It's like walking through an MC Escher piece. The puzzles, the mind-fuckery of the hallways, and the ambiance are all wonderful. Oh, also, the game pretty much tells you pretty much nothing about how things work, so expect a lot of experimentation.
Monaco is 2D indie Payday on crack. Less shooting and murder, more sneaking, collecting coins, and running around like mad men when you're inevitably discovered, trying to find a place to hide. The game is at its best if you have a full group of 4 to play it with. I never tried playing with randoms online, and only did a few missions solo, so I can't really speak as to how fun that might be, but my guess is significantly less than co-op.
But yeah, buy this humble bundle, all the games are fantastic.

02-20-2014, 09:40 AM
If you have a controller that isn't an x360, just use x360ce to emulate it anyway. It has yet to fail me on all these games that seem just dead set on releasing with only support for a controller that costs more than the game.

I'm iffy on this game. I know its alpha but its very poor at conveying basic and vital controls. I figured out how to feed my pirates by chance, still cant figure out how to teach them skills (got the skill book but cant figure out how to use it) and I just randomly click things to try and loot.
I see potential, but might be jumping the gun to get it at its current stage

The Deponia Trilogy (http://store.steampowered.com/sub/32099/?snr=1_4_4__104_2) is 66% off until April 14th. If you like point-and-click games with stupid, entertaining characters and total mindfuck puzzles then $16 is worth these three games.
It sort of throws me back to the good ol' days of Pajama Sam, Spy Fox and . . . Putt Putt . . . except those weren't nearly as outrageous.
And of course the individual games are full priced, because fuck the people who only wanted the last one. You're lucky I don't have time to play games anymore, Gaben, or I'd be really pissed.
And now there's a whole Daedelic Bundle sale! Sins forgiven, Gaben.
As for the games, Deponia is a great choice, it's light and fun and the puzzles aren't retarded. It's a trilogy though so don't expect any closure from the first(or second) game.
Harvey's New Eyes has a weird style that takes some time to get used to, but it's a nice story and you can hardly notice it's a sequel. The first game is also on sale, more expensive and the production values are way lower so I wouldn't recommend.
The Whispered World is...ok. I didn't like the Spot puzzles and didn't feel anything for either the story or characters and kinda dropped it.
I'll be getting Goodbye Deponia and Journey of a Roach, which seems like a short, interesting ride.

That game is totally worth it to have for fun slow mo shooting challenges... in higher difficulties it actually poses a tense challenge to play. For free it's a HUGE deal you should totally get it.
Also, i just wanted to share that the Dogfighting Module for Star Citizen (arena Commander) is out now. And i'm super stoke to get home and play it tonigh!! It's Alpha but it just looks like a blast to play!!
If anybody wants in on this, check a couple of videos and see if your PC meets the spec (it's a heavy one) and just pledge, if i'm not mistaken, 5 bucks to get in on the Alpha... for people who like Space sims, Wing Commander and dogfighting in space, seems like a good time for cheap...
Please take note that this will NOT give you access to the final game... but if you like it, you can hop in on the lower pledge levels and get yourself a nicer starter ship and just go space adventuring!
