Maybe if Danny Glover had more people that took him seriously, like Limbaugh and Robertson do, I'd imagine there would have been more news about this. But since few people take him at face value, it's like the guy on the street corner raving about the end of days. I'm now trying to make sense of what he said. It's like two different thoughts rammed each other (need for a better global warming response, and a need to make sure that other Caribbean [or any third-world] nation is better prepared for a disaster such as an earthquake or hurricane) and came out his mouth at the same time.

The original comment from 1:50 on:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2ft5JkNWJA However, listening to his entire comment on the situation actually helps put the quoted part in its proper context. Listening to it I find that it's even harder to get the reading that I find suspiciously uncharitable: that Danny Glover is presenting the argument that Global Warming causes earthquakes. But even the specific Global Warming part takes away from that reading even more, it's not a poised declaration, it's an on the fly digression. The only part that actually can be made to imply that "Global Warming caused this earthquake" is "this is the response, this is what happens", and I don't think there's any reason not to take that as anymore than an ambiguous phrasing of what he's actually doing the rest of the comment: doing a comparison, and not being extremely formal in his grammar. There's no comparison between this and Pat Robertson's patented "God's punishment for urban legend" bullshit.

And I don't really see it from the statements quoted. Quickly googling Danny Glover and Gaia together seems to yield mostly this story, but with no more sourcing from Danny Glover. I think this is just a matter of the sensible core of Danny Glover's statement being badly received.

Wow ....Robertson is a retard.
The guy is so stupid that he's actually kind of funny.... maybe he should pursue a career in comedy ? His comment (quoted in the 1st post of this thread) made me giggle. It's just absurd ! And the way he explains things !? ![]() "They saw Satan, and said "Hey help us!", and Satan said "lol 'kay" That's just ....... I lack the words to describe how I feel about this right now... Way to go Robertson, that's some ultra-high level eloquency you got there. ![]()

I think what he is getting at is that global warming will lead to more extreme weather and more disasters which is the standard view. Probably just didn't phrase it very well.
Or maybe he's saying something like- Global warming will ravage the poor more than the rich and it will be similar to Haiti which is the kind of place which will be affected by global warming. |

Kind of sad that he's so old.
I don't have a lot of time to learn to dance on his grave. |
