EGM is probably the best gaming magazine I've read. It's not perfect but it's the best the industry probably has right now, and Dan Hsu seems to have his head on straight.
I get Game Informer against my will (damn you Edge Card). The entire thing reads like advertising copy and I despise every single page inside it. It's probably the worst gaming magazine I've ever laid my hands upon.

I read PSM, which is pretty good, aside from 1 or 2 bizarrely scathing reviews of games other people loved.

I don't read EGM. Why? Nintendo fanboy monthly.
I prefer PC gamer because most of my gaming is done on the PC. Fancy that.

Power Unlimited is pretty damn awesome too.
Of course, it's a Dutch magazine, so you New Worlders won't know it, but trust me. It's pretty awesome.

Game Informer isn't that bad. I mostly read it for the previews anyway - They do get alot of stuff way way before anyone else, and honestly I've usually made up my mind about a game long before I read any print reviews. Usually the game is already out and in my hands before I have to listen to their opinion.

PC Gamer is an excellent magazine, and it's one of the only gaming mags that I know anymore with trustworthy reviews. EGM was pretty good back when I read it (A long time ago... my most recent magazine, I think, had Resident Evil 0 on the cover).
Most game reviewers seem biased these days though. I only really trust Metacritic (and PC Gamer). Ooh! And Zero Punctuation. You have to watch ZP differently to get the right idea, though - he basically says "The game is perfect except for these aspects," which sometimes (Clive Barker's Jericho) ends up being almost everything.

GamePro I lump in with EGM. Good during the SNES and Genesis days (dear GOD they gave Mortal Kombat 1 a high rating for blood content alone...) but just couldn't keep up with the demand afterwards.
In regards to Lair and Play's overly high score, I can't talk too much about it. They may rate them higher in the mag then reconsider them after the hype is down. For example, in this issue, Ratchet and Clank received all 10s for the action genre. Now I dunno about you, but after reading, I'd say it's a 9.5 at most. Reading from GI, it definitely has a few things to work on. Unfortunately, since I can't necessarily play it quite yet, I'll have to wait and see what it needs work on. |

No, Ratchet is definitely a 10. Id say it even beats out SMG as the best platformer of the year. I mean it, R&CF is AMAZING. It even manages to make the Sixaxis mostly not suck.
