I love the Flaming Lips!!
Also, it's not so recent, but I'm not sure how many of you might have heard of them. MGMT are simply awesome, check out "Kids", or "Time To Pretend", or "Electric Feel". I heard them by accident, (they opened for a concert I went to), and they turned out to be one of my favorite bands! Check em out!

Holy balls Caveat.
Holy Balls Speaking to Stones. Holy balls ... Exotic Animal.... Petting... Zoo...? Caveat is a 4 piece that uses their bassist and one guitarist as the vocalists and combine sort of distorted yells, screams, cleans, all kinds of stuff. Speaking to Stones is a progressive rock band that's pretty mellow but its got some metal influence. Exotic Animal Petting Zoo.... look, if you're into prog rock/metal, just listen. They apparently can be described (according to last.fm) as a combination of Dillinger Escape Plan, Smashing Pumpkins, Deftones, and Sigur Ros. (P.S. They get screamy) Yeah. I don't get it either. (HEY GUYS IM ON A PROG BINGE) Edit: Honorable mention goes to Aghora, Scale the Summit, and Spiral Architects a little bit. Double Edit: YEAH! I knew that the itunes money was going to pay off! Go go proactive bands who put their stuff on itunes where they are otherwise unfindable on the internet!

Imogen Heap's music genre is quite unique.
Song Another Song Another Another Song She's also very lovely in person. Last edited by Corel; 01-19-2009 at 03:47 PM. |

I'm an MGMT fan. They have some incredible things. When I went to their concert they turned me onto another artist I haven't been able to remember the name of since so I can't find any of their stuff since they opened for MGMT. I also reccomend "Metanoia" and "Weekend Wars."

Pendulum Slam.
The lyrics and tune on their own are awesome. But then add in a music video of a fat man dancing his heart out in the middle of what I guess is London and it gets real. Pendulum- Propane Nightmares I really can't explain everything about this song, it's just really fuckin great as far as I'm concerned. Pendulum is one of my favorite bands, the style of their lyrics and Tunes differ wildly from song to song, but it always seems to be holding on to this surreal mixture of old and new types of media.

Also, in honor of the acapella thread I present Off The Beat who have a pretty sweet acapella name. In other "I've been listening to too much Merriweather Post Pavilion" news, the video for My Girls is pretty cool, but Summertime Clothes is still the song to beat for '09 so far.

Been to Austrian Death Machine, shit is hilarious.
I mean AILD is pretty lame but as far as a musical statement/fucking awesome goes, that's amazing. |

Does anyone else here listen to Clutch?
I wasn't sure about them at first, but they grew on me quite quickly. Now I'm crazy for them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtTDKsT-1Fk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJ_oHiMulKQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ys0rM...eature=related and a slow song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ia0HU...eature=related I was wondering if anyone knew of any similar bands. I like the whole blues-rock thing.
