I'd like to point you in the direction of Disney's live action Around the World in 80 Days, which featured intense fights with Jackie Chan, one in which he was impaled by several throwing knives.

And keep in mind this is a Dragonball movie, not Dragonball Z. Compared to Dragonball Z, Dragonball was relatively tame and any deaths were rare and mostly non-graphic.

Presumably, that's just the set, and the actual movie will have that as his island, so likely the only twist is that they actually got something vaguely right.

Not to beat the horse much more, but, i just got these... the PSP game carries some info on the plot and the pace of the movie, since it's 100% based on the storyline of the movie, and have dialogue and scenes take directly from it.

Since these are true spoilers for the movie (and game), i'll spoiler tag them

- Roshi is a pretty funny guy. There were a few lines throughout the game that made me chuckle. My favorite was toward the end when he, Yamcha, and Bulma arrive at the Dragon Temple in Yamcha's truck. All hell is breaking loose as Piccolo and Mai are present as well as the Fu Lums. Roshi looks out from the truck and says "Well, looks like you two can handle this. I'll just wait here in the truck."

- The Fu Lums regenerate and have these swords that they get from their bodies. Piccolo creates them from his own energy. He has to go in this special room to do it, though.

- When Goku and Bulma meet, Goku asks if she's Piccolo. Bulma asks if Goku stole her something-something-orb. I forget what she says, but she obviously doesn't know they are called Dragonballs, so she has this weird technical scientific term that she calls them.

- Bulma says they harness an energy that she wants to collect. I forget what the energy is called but the acronym is P.E.E and Goku responds "Pee? Gross!". Goku is pretty stupid throughout the game. At one point Bulma tells him that she wants to be as big as Einstein. Goku asks "Who's Eintein?"

-Bulma and Yamcha are flying around in the truck trying to get the Dragonballs away from Piccolo, and they succeed.

- It's not explained in the game (the game leaves out a lot of stuff and it's obvious) but Piccolo tells Goku he is a Saiyan named Kakorot. He tells him he was sent to destroy the planet on his 18th birthday. He then shows Goku the meteor Goku was sent down to earth in. Goku has a flash-back and we see the meteor hitting Earth and Gohan finding him in the ship.

- Goku apparently knows about Oozaru, but not that HE is the Oozaru, and he freaks out when Piccolo tells him. Then Goku transforms (I assume due to the eclipse) and goes ape **** on Yamcha, Bulma and Roshi. There is an awesome still of Oozaru with his hands around Roshi's neck.

-While Oozaru kicks the crap out of Bulma and Yamcha, Roshi decides that is it the perfect time to perform the MaFuBa. Of course, it fails. The game doesn't go into detail about what happens to Roshi after that.

- Goku has a vision of Gohan who tells him he must stop the Oozaru. So, then there is (and remember, this is just how the game does it) a fight between Goku and Oozaru on this astral plane type thing that I gues represents Goku's mind. Goku wins, and transforms back.

- Then Goku and Piccolo fight. And the game doesn't really show what happens after Goku beats Piccolo.

- The High School scenes are so short. I can't imagine them taking up more than 10 minutes of the film. Seriously. There's the parking lot scene, the classroom scene, the locker scene, and then the party scene. That's it.

- Goku rides to school in his scooter thinger, then her and Fuller crash.
"You wrecked my bike" says Goku.
"Agundas, did you just fart?" Says Fuller.
"No, it was that kid squealing", Agundas replies.

-Agundas and Fuller think Goku is just a skinny weakling, which I thought was funny since almost all the villains in DBZ think that about Goku.

-Chi Chi can't get her lockers open. Goku focuses his ki and the all open. Chi Chi notices he used his ki.

"You know about ki?"
"Just because my name is Chi Chi doesn't mean i'm a complete idiot!"
"Of course, I mean there are worse names.. I mean. uh..."

-Goku doges all of Fuller and his buddies attacks and they end up beating each other up.

Chi Chi: "Goku!"
Goku: "It was self defense! You saw!"
Chi Chi: "I guess it was"
*they laugh*

-Piccolo kills Gohan.

Piccolo: "You are trembling. Do you fear me, human?"
Gohan: "If I am trembling it is with excitement, not fear"

-Gohan dies, Goku takes his gi and says he'll go find Master Roshi. Then Bulma shows up.

Goku: "Are you Piccolo? Did you kill my grandpa?"
Bulma: "If I were a "piccolo" I would have killed you by now. Are you the one who stole my promethium orb? Give it back"

Bulma says that it belongs to her father and that he has kept it for over 10 years. Hers has 5 stars so when she sees that Goku's has 4 she is surprised to see that there are more.

Bulma: "I always knew there were more!"
Goku: "Seven, to be exact. How did you find this one."
Bulma: "I track the energy with this device I created"
Goku: "You have a Dragon Ball locating device?"
Bulma: "Well, I always called it a Promethium Energy Extracor."
Goku: "PEE, that's gross!"

Then Goku says that she should help him find Master Roshi, and he'll help her find the Dragonballs.

Bulma: "Why do you think I need your help?
Goku: "Because it's dangerous"
Bulma: "I see"
Goku: "See this house, the people who destroyed it are also looking for the dragonballs. The killed my grandfather. WHo knows what they'll do to you. We may not even make it"
Bulma: "Spare me the sales pitch, you had me at 'dangerous'.

-Then they find Roshi, and he thinks there criminals so he attacks Goku, but Roshi recognizes Goku's technique, as he was Gohans master. Then they explain the situation and Roshi talks about the prophesy and all that stuff. Then he says they can go to this private place where he and Gohan used to train, and he would train Goku.

-They continue on their journey. They get to the place Roshi was talking about as find that it is no longer private. There is a school of fighters there (including Chi Chi).

Bulma: "I thought you said this place was private?"
Roshi: "Times have changed. They even have a snack bar!".

Goku meets Chi Chi, she tells him that this is wear all the fighters come to train for the tournament. Then she tells Goku that she has always secretly been a fighter. Then they have a sparing match.

All got these from http://www.dragonballmovieblog.net , and it seems to navigate towards the "dragonball spirit" with Roshi being more comic relief (although not a flat-out pevert), the "kidish toilet humor" that the original manga had too, and Goku being somewhat "dense".

The level of fail in this movie has finally come full circle. It has circled back to awesome.

Luckily, fans always overestimate how good something will be, so this movie, thankfully, is probably still on the far end of the fail spectrum.

The new UK trailer that shows Goku's hair "snapping back" after he tries slicking it with gel. The six movie clips on that page were all removed due to copyright claims.
