Auto-tune has become a stylistic thing in and of itself and has ceased to be just a tool to create "perfection". People dislike the style.
Edit: I actually have developed less of a hatred for auto-tune when viewing it like this, or rather, I can enjoy the robot-voice when people actually put it to good use stylistically, instead of following a fad and being a lazy singer. Sadly, the best example I can present is T-Pain, since he puts forth an effort to "harmonize" in his auto-tune voice in the unique way it can, whereas Kesha pretty much just sings normally and auto-tunes it.
