With me, it's creepy, as I'm pretty antisocial (you can tell because I joined this forum) and not particularly outgoing. And yet in my first year of university, pretty much everybody in my halls of residence knew who I was. I barely knew anybody outside of my flat. And this had been happening for years. "Hey, you're [Green Spanner] aren't you?" I have heard more than once. Goddamn, I'm a crotchety recluse. How do people keep knowing about me?

What disturbs me is people who're so into being miserable they get angry when they see you try to do something nice. This actually happens. I might be talking to person A who's having some problems, listening, being sympathic and assuring and maybe give some advice. This makes person B who overhears the conversation furious, and I get told at great length that I can't help people because I don't have a psychiatrist degree, that I'm deluding myself that I'm useful to society and dangerously deluding person A into thinking he feels better, and in fact it's my duty as a human being to make people miserable to cure them of optimism.

SS, my dad quit law for basically that reason. He took his skills as a lawyer, went back to school for a degree in urban design, and now he heads a non-profit and sits on the boards of a few charities. The point of this is that if you ever change your mind about law, the skills you will learn will be valuable in fields which may not seem related at first.
Also, while being cutthroat may help their job prospects, your, y'know, actual ability to empathize will be far more valuable in the long run. Also also, what you described is why I chose the sciences over law :p

I'm sure they'll give you a 100 if you do some extra curricular activities.

People who think you are mad at them when you're not. It's understandable on one or two occasions and when some BIG something happened between you and this other person.
But times when you are just in a sour mood, you might have taken it out on them without realizing it or you were just being less than sociable to them earlier in the day, or when a really small thing occurs that most normal people would blow off in half an hour. Co-workers that ask about my personal life. Anyone who does for that matter. I don't mean the occasional "how is [this person that I know is in your life]," I'm talking about when I mention I am moving out to find my own place, these people say "Well what does your Grandma think about that?" (I lived with my grandma at the time). Also when people think that this girl I am hanging out with is automatically my girlfriend. I have a friend who is a girl, why do we have to be dating? I think everyone in my workplace has made at least one comment about that. To the person with the people telling you to smile, I have a few people do that, too, but they are all girls. Occasionally a guy says this, but those guys are normally strangers. The girls that tell me to smile all the time are people that I regularly see, and they say it almost every single time that I do not look 110% chipper. I am actually a pretty happy guy most of the time, finding anything I can do to goof off, but there are a good number of occasions when I am not looking my cheeriest, and everyone notices it. It's tough to be as rambunctious and goofy as I tend to be all the damn time, I want to take a break. Quote:
