I agree with you. Only the source of the issue is less morons in the government and more morons in the American public. This campaign illustrates poignantly the reality of the matter. Take Our Jobs has offered Americans to take jobs back from migrant workers. Only a handful of people have followed through on it.

Americans are not losing jobs or suffering increased crime or anything else. Yet the myths still persist. Until we fix that, we're not fixing immigration.

It really has nothing to do with the myth even. The myth is just one of the excuses racists like to wheel out so that they can claim they aren't actually racist they just don't want their jobs stolen or whatever. There are things they would do or try to do if it had anything to do with the jobs, but they don't do these things so it's pretty obviously just racism. Another thing I've heard is that "Mexicans wouldn't be patriotic enough" (I'll have to look up the source of that quote sometime), and yet the anti-immigration fucks oppose a discussed reform that would give immigrants citizenship for serving in the military for a certain amount of time. So, it clearly has nothing to do with patriotism either.

In short: Anti-immigration people are completely full of shit and wholly motivated by racism. While I am certain that there are some anti-immigration idiots who aren't racist on a conscious or intentional level and may even be otherwise not-entirely-awful people, that does not mean they aren't racist and aren't awful people about this specific topic.

In that case, the system will just be broken forever. If Sesame Street, Dora the Explorer, and every other kids' show can't manage to curb racism despite some of them having been on the air since our parents were kids, barring massive re-education, it's just not happening. So long as there are racist parents who teach racism to their kids, there will be racism.

I don't give a good goddamn if the system is messed up. I know just how messed up it is, I've lived here for ten fucking years and we're still in that system. But it exists. Right, because life as an illegal immigrant is so easy. Sure is great paying money into social services of which you are unable to avail yourself unlike legal citizens, while making less than a legal citizen working at minimum wage could in three or four hours per day on average. Oh, and all the while trying to support a family still in Mexico, as many tend to do, from what I've read. Sounds fan-fucking-tastic. In fact, it sounds so fantastic why don't you get started on that.

Well, the way I see it, if they came to the country full awares of the risk of deportation, they probably did it because things were so shit that all the risks entailed in cross the border illegally (and there are a lot of risks) were better than them and their family being stuck in the situation they were in. Just a guess. So, when a situation and a system exist to fuck those people over as much as possible, to the point where they're willing to take on these risks, then yes I'm going to get fucking mad at them being deported, because they are being deported due to the fucking shit-ass system that is designed as heavily as possible to screw them over.

You know, maybe it's because I'm American, or because I'm been watching a lot of television coverage of the demonstrations in both France and England over social issues, but I just look at Mexico, see the people fleeing from it on a daily basis, and go "Fuck, why don't these people take to their own streets and riot already?" I'd really like to see the Mexican people throw out their worthless government and all the drug cartels on their own and start fresh as a people. Do they need a Zorro-esque character to lead them? Is that what they are waiting for?

Anyway, I've got no problems with immigrants (illegal or otherwise) coming here because it's a better place. It's just that Mexico is a shit country and I'd really like to see a modern revolution. Also the illegality of some immigrants makes them vulnerable to abuse. Our immigration system isn't perfect but it really isn't meant to handle wave after wave of refugees like it did back in the Ellis Island days when getting here by boat was slow, many people died on the trip over, and we had lots of room and work for the people who survived the ordeal.

Anyway, I lost sight of my point a while back and I'm pretty sure I should have stopped typing somewhere around "I've got no problem with immigrants," but I'm only half awake right now and that center of the that makes these kind of judgments is still offline.
