Furthermore you're getting his name confused with his class, which I believe changed from "Black Mage" to "Black Wizard" during the whole class change thing. Its where he got his pantaloons.

It changed from Black Mage to Blue Mage. That's it.

But yeah, he does technically count as a Wizard. I mean hell, his trademark move is the beam Red Mage is referring to.

Or it didn't actually change because he didn't actually get a class change. Just a fancy new costume and the ability to learn spells that suck and/or hurt Black Mage.

if he wanted to he could probably steal one of his teammates magic abilities, but he mentioned in some comic that he doesn't care for magic
