Some of us played Borderlands once (I think it was me, lazy, and akaSM). It's pretty fun, but my horrible computer can't run it very well.

Yeah, Borderlands is definitely an option for me. I've said before that I have a level 69 Berserker, so I know the game well enough to help people level up quickly. Although people would need all of the DLC if I were to host, so that may be the only problem.

Added a new system to associate dedicated servers with Steam accounts
Use the ConCommand "cl_gameserver_create_identity" in the Team Fortress 2 client console to create a server account using the currently logged in Steam account. This will generate values for "tf_server_identity_account_id" and "tf_server_identity_token"

glad they removed that "no crit" as a drawback. Especially when there are so many alternate ways to get it, and no crit servers, it wasn't much of a downside. However the -25% damage hurts my cabal, considering it hurts me too reducing its raw damage really hurts its use.

think changes to backburner was a bad idea, increased ammo cost hurts abit, but otherwise its now just a better flamethrower

I fooled around with HL2 deathmatch for a bit, but when i tried to get in TF2 with you guys steam started to act all crazy and crashing on me! Then most people called a night, so it was pretty short

Continuing my Campaign for HL2 Deathmatch, i'll be playing tonight, but i would switch over if more of you decide to come up and play some games.

For those who can get Deathmatch for free (most of you i would wager) the game is not just Shooting-Killing. There is All Vs All, Team Vs Team, There are Puzzle maps, There are All Vs Ai Zombie map, There are Death runs (one team navigates a maze, the other tries to trigger traps to kill the other team), and there are even Roleplaying maps.

I recommend it strongly, check it out.

All in and all it's pretty fun. My only complaint is spawning, as there were a number of times I spawned into a room full of enemies, or when I spawned in right behind another player. Maybe a minor nitpick as the respawn rate is pretty fast, but still kinda annoying.

Actually, unless I'm mistaken, from what I saw any hit with a thrown object is a insta-kill.

That really is a map problem, sadly. In DM spawnpoints are fixed, so depending on the map you can appear in the middle of a bunch of enemies.

There are some Coop maps where the players need to clear rooms to advance, and the rooms are filled with Respawning monsters with beefed up life, those are great challenges but the monsters always appear on the same spots, so it can become dull...

All and all, fun level depends on the Map you're it and how well it was made. If you want to check a different experience, try checking the Puzzle maps or a Deathrun map.


High point of this was when i spammed my Machine gun at Pyro, not killing him, And when i ran out of bullets, he used the gravity gun to pick a tire and run at me, whicm ade me flee in horror and then... death by tire.

All you gotta do is join the NPF:Unlimited group on Steam and show up on a weekend evening.

We play L4D2 and TF2 most often, but not exclusively. I know a few people play Killing Floor, and recently there have been Monday Night Combat and HL: Deathmatch sprees.

Speaking of which..
HL2 Deathmatch I could get this for free, but apparently it doesn't always play well with Vista 64 so I'm a bit hesitant to try it. Sounds fun, though.


Also also: I've never played GMod in multiplayer, but I've noticed a handful of us have it. Might be a fun diversion sometime? Can you really go wrong with being able to create horrible nightmare machines out of washing machines and soda cans? I think not.

Yep. I'll be around. I downloaded Half Life 2: Deathmatch but haven't played it yet. I also tried out the Golden Eye Source mod Pyros recommended but there was like 7 servers, each with 3 or 4 people on them, and the only server that had 7 people was instant kills, which I discovered after I joined. Did not end well for me.

Oh and for everyone who plays TF2: If anyone has a spare Dead Ringer or Huntsman to trade I'd be interested. I'm trying to craft myself an Etranger and Sydney Sleeper but I only realized I needed the previously mentioned items after I melted my spares down to scrap metal.

Do you guys have/play Killing Floor?

Summed up: It's up to 6 player coop where you choose different classes (Commando, Medic, Berserker, Demo, Support, and Pyro) to fight off waves of enemies. At the end, you get to fight a boss.

It's not terribly complicated, but it is fun and a good way to co-op without necessarily playing against humans.

Any of you who got the Potato Bundle already have it of course.

Though I think we only all got together and played it on one occasion, and that was when I joined Lazy and his roommate who were playing on hard, and the others joined in at wave 6 or 7. So I've been looking into setting up a TF2 server for our weekly shenanigans, and I have most of it figured out. The only problem right now is my brother, who for some reason keeps the router configuration stuff locked up like it's made of gold. The reason why I need access to the router is so I can forward some ports so that you guys can actually connect. If I'm lucky I'll have access to the router before the weekend and get everything set up.

Probably just the stock maps. I'd prefer to keep things simple. There is a metric ass-ton of server commands that you can put in the config file and the less I have to use the better.

We faced perils such as 3 tanks at once, Smokers pulling our brave archers off the wall and into a mob of brutal violence, where none could dare save them, and such indignities as 3 jockeys and 2 hunters managing to incap the entire four man army!

Part of me wants to ring up Steel Samurai (the guy who made it) and ask for a "Helms Deep: Melee" version, where it's only normal infected, non-incap specials (except maybe Charger) and melee weapons only. Blood for the blood god, and Fire for MYSELF!

Anyway, chat was made tonight, and we discussed other than the Acronym2 varieties:

At least in Portal 2, yes. PC players can play a game with PS3 players and likewise, plus your single player save files can carry between consoles if you own both (i.e, start a game on the PC, finish it on your PS3 and the reverse).

In all seriousness, I'd imagine that it is if you want to mess around with it some. I've never used it, nor been tempted to do so - so I'm no help. However, in the case of username whatsits, I'd just join the NPF group and add people at random. The name that you choose (ie. the name outside of your login info) is used. @Aldurin: You need Half-Life2 in order to play Garry's Mod. It uses the physics engine/ props/ etc. It can also use TF2, Counter Strike and Portal, but you MUST have Half-Life 2 in order for it to work.

It's a lot of fun to mess with, and you don't have to know anything about modding/coding/whatever to have fun with it. If messing with character models and creating deathtraps out of Half Life props sounds fun to you, then go for it.

EDIT: So if you don't have Half Life 2, I'd say go for the Orange Box and save up for Garry's Mod later. Half Life 2 may not be the newest, sparkliest game on the market, but daaaaamn it's fun and super amazing. Plus if you play through it's sequels, Episode 1 and 2, (also included in the Orange Box) you'll learn more about where Portal's Aperture Science comes from.

Make sure you've got the right group. The NPF has had two-- we've long since abandoned the original, though. The correct usergroup is called Nuklear Power Forums: Unlimited or something along those lines.

And yeah, TF2 has, I believe, over two hundred updates since it was released back in 2007 or so, so it might be good to get cracking on downloading that. L4D2 updates once every two weeks as Valve releases new game modes, called Mutations, that you can only play for that two-week interval. Keep an eye out for Chainsaw Massacre. When Valve gets around to running that one again (they cycle through their list of mutations every few weeks) you'll have to join a multiplayer game with us. It's a blast. Right now the mutation is Taaaaaank! I think. I really wanted to play this weekend but I have to update and it takes forever. :(

I've heard that somewhere floating around the steam community, theres actually a mod version of L4D2 that will let you locally host lobbies for any mutation you want, even when its not that that mutation's turn in the cycle. A guy I play with pretty often has been using it to host Gibfest games when other mutations were playing.

Up until I saved the clip, it did show stuff like names and kills and such. That's how I found your clip: I saw that you killed yourself and went to see what happened, and found that. So I was kinda surprised to see it didn't have it in the final version.

Glad you got it fixed! And mouse/keyboard is actually a totally great setup for FPS's once you get used to it. Very intuitive and accurate. I'd suggest practicing with Half-Life 2 or play a few single player L4D2 campaigns for a bit. The only downside to the L4D for practice is that your AI-controlled "buddies" will steal all your kills until you're more confident/accutrate with your mouse-aimin' skills.

This is the first thing (http://www.gamefront.com/how-to-use-a-ps3-controller-on-a-pc/) that popped up using this Google search (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=usb+ps3+controller+on+pc). Haven't tried it out myself since I just use my brother's USB X360 controller when I feel like using a console controller for certain games.

But I totally recommend familiarizing yourself with the mouse and keyboard. There is a reason a lot of PC gamers are elitists when it comes to FPS games. Key thing though: Don't be afraid to go into the game options and tweak the sensitivity until you find something you're comfortable with. Personally I crank my mouse sensitivity pretty high, but I know a few people who prefer to have it lower, so keep changing it until you find what feels right.

The "T" button, I believe. You have to make your own poster if you want any beyond the default, though. I find using Paint.Net, and saving the picture you want as a spray in a .tga format to be the only way I can get my posters to work, though I'm probably doing something wrong.

The funnest thing to do is to set up a good engineer nest on a high traffic area and take pot shots at anyone you see with your pistol. I've taken out quite a few spies just by doing that.

Also, spies can be detected by the unique way that they BURN.

Also, crafting isn't that bad sometimes, while crafting a har would need over 50 items (!), I crafted a couple of medic items with just 3 and 5 items respectively. Take a look at the wiki (http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Crafting), maybe you can craft something just with any dupes you may have.

Some may frown upon this but I recommend going into achievement servers and accomplishing the "Achievement Milestones" for each class. You reach a Milestone by getting a certain number of class-specific achievements (for some classes it's 10, 16, 22, and for others it's 5, 11, 17) and each milestone unlocks a new weapon for that class. Such servers are also pretty good for practicing techniques, such as using the airblast to deflect rockets and grenades for the pyro, or how to Grenade/rocket jump.

I apparently went on a crafting spree recently, but here's what I have left for dupes:
-Backscratcher (Pyro rake, kills your medic heal rate but buffs your medkit heal rate to unfathomable levels)
-Scottish Resistance (Demo stickybomber, lets you plant more bombs and the only ones that detonate are the ones you're looking at but they arm more slowly)
-Bonk Atomic Punch (Scout drink, makes you temporarily invincible, replaces the pistol)
-Killing Gloves of Boxing (Heavy melee, slower but gives you all crits (for all weapons) for 5 seconds when you get a kill with them

I also have a shitton of crates. All of those are free to a good home.

Or an abusive, underappreciative home, really. Fuck crates, they deserve it.

I love that one map where you move the payload up the elevator like 20 feet from the enemy elevator. The best part is when my team is on the final stretch and I start burning people on the upper deck who are trying to take potshots at the guy moving the payload.

And setting a heavy on fire and running away is the best form of TF2 harassment.

We usually stick to vanilla game mode for practical reasons; no one wants to get stuck in 20+ minutes of loading extra content while everyone else is already playing.

Dustbowl is so very overplayed. I find payload to be an arguably better mode than static attack/defense. The objective is clear (especially now that everyone can always see the cart) and it gives a moving focus to the battlefield that is harder to generate with static points. Payload race, however, suffers from stalemate issues.

People's attention gets so divided between the cart and the people directly in front of them, it's easy/fun to sneak around behind enemy lines and start setting things on fire/hurling rockets at people like a maniac/ build sentries like a madman in high traffic areas.

The problem is that they aren't so secret and most of them don't lead near enough to the final points as they need to. Honestly, the map feels cramped after seeing what the creators and fans could do after the game had been out for a while.

That said, I love payload maps for the same reason. People's attention gets so divided between the cart and the people directly in front of them, it's easy/fun to sneak around behind enemy lines and start setting things on fire/hurling rockets at people like a maniac/ build sentries like a madman in high traffic areas.
I also think Payload allows Engineers to really shine. Teleporters become a lot more important with spawn points that don't keep changing back and forth. And since the track makes it easy to tell where the objective is going, you can more reliably set up your stuff.

And engineer is just as important on offense. (And the Mini-sentry is one of my favorite things.)
