Payload is a game mode. Dustbowl is a single map that gets played too often. It's poorly designed, relative to a lot of the newer offerings, and so I personally find that you hit way too many stalemates compared to, say, Gorge.

2fort is still the worst map in the game by far though.

I just hate the maps with the big spawn rooms. I dun play as often as I should, so alla these new fangled maps are confusing and hard to navigate - especially when you're trapped in a spawn point for a match.

(Note: I wasn't trapped for the whole match, however it is increasingly annoying.)

2Fort is awesome for its simplicity and its repetitive nature. It's one of the most solid maps on the roster.

I hate ctf_turbine. Too much bullshittery happens there.

cp_gorge, cp_steel and plr_pipeline are probably my favourite maps. It doesn't help that I keep forgetting the name of the other maps I like.

It may be small, simple, and somewhat overplayed, but 2fort is a great place to be a soldier or demoman. Your rocket/sticky jump can land you in places most people ignore, since generally the focus is on the bridge and the inner courtyards. It's also the greatest thing ever to clear out the inevitable Battlement Sniper Nest with one rocket jump, while the Wall O' Snipers can't even get out of their scopes before they realize they're getting slaughtered.

It's also a hoot if you can manage to get a sentry built outside the enemy fort's front door, in the protected corner.

I'll admit though, if your teams are evenly skilled, you can get deadlocked reeeeeeally easy on 2fort and end up in turtleland for hours, especially if the teams have multiple engies.


Man, there's a bunch of the old maps I haven't played in ages. Granary, 2fort, Well, Fastlane... On our next TF2 night, we gotta find a server that's playing something other than Hightower, Turbine and KOTH Sawmill.

The problem that most people have with it (I think), is that the rounds can be too short and you keep jumping between maps. At least, that's my take on it.

No, I feel that honor falls to Turbine. At least 2fort has some seperate areas. Turbine is just one big area with a looping hallway with the spawn and intel on opposite sides.

Wait, what's that last part? Gorge is pretty fun and certainly a good attack/defend map, but Steel is annoying because I swear every time I play it, one team steamrolls the other. Usually whichever team has more players familiar with the map. And PLR's stalemates are aggravating.

TF2: Aldurin lagged more than I did, thus becoming a god of speed. It was incredible. His flamethrower could hit you anywhere. And pyro rushes are incredible. Except on fast respawn dustbowl.

But do I really lag that bad? From my point of view everybody's bullets and movements work fine yet it can take me up to a second to set somebody on fire.

And hey, we could always use more Medics. Plus we found out the Pyro rush is frighteningly effective until someone puts up a Sentry. Then someone else puts up a sentry, and it's on a zero respawn timer, and blugh. I was too tiered to deal with a stalemate, but fun was still had later after that. Anyway, join in the chat for "Nuklear Powered Forums Unlimited (NPFU)" Steam group and join the shenanigans.

There were several times where you caught up to me while I was running away. At least twice while I was a scout, and a few times as other classes.

The worst was when I wasn't even running backwards. I turned around and fled (as a scout), was outside your flamethrower range, and then all of a sudden I'm getting hit by backburner crits.

I've seen people playing on Halolz before but I never learned the password. If we're doing steamnights and somebody suggests TF2, though, I think that's an excellent idea - a passworded server, as long as the owners/regulars don't complain, would be a great locale for some shenanigans.

I'm incredibly annoyed by the fact that if a zombie is within a 10 ft radius of me and running to attack me, it hits me. My shots only actually hit it after it touches me. Also, I'm running away, a zombie hits the place I thought I was - but thanks to lag I wasn't yet - and so it hits me and I snap back there. So yeah.

Champions Online: Anyone try the archer? And is Blade JUST swords? Can't I like, use an axe or something?

Champions Online: Anyone try the archer? And is Blade JUST swords? Can't I like, use an axe or something?

I have an archer and it's pretty good DPS, although I'm only level 7 because of dance parties but still, I managed to kill Toasty AND Mauve. Also I think there's an option to make your starting weapon an axe for the Blade. You might end up finding a better weapon that happens to be a sword though.

Magica's good fun, but I'm not sure I like it as much with the more recent changes. It's become way to easy to die at your own hand or from the enemy. There used to be more way to stop that from happening, but not with the latest versions. What happened to my good fun catapulting myself with arcane+guard mines?

It may be out of date, but it's not a bad weapon. I'm not too fond of the Direct Hit, myself, since I rely heavily on splash damage when I play Soldier. If I have any left in my inventory I'll toss 'em your way.

I actually have no idea what kinds of junk I have stored right now. Nothing from the new update-- I haven't played TF2 in several weeks (SPIRAL KNIGHTS SPIRAL KNIGHTS SPIRAL KNIGHTS CHAMPIONS SPIRAL KNIGHTS), but I know I usually have a crap-ton of huntsmans and the like unless I go on random crafting sprees. I'll see what I've got laying around and post a list for trading later.



Also- I've rolled a Grimoire as my second Champions character because I was bored and wanted to see what they could do. Huh. A female spellcaster played by Mauve. You can probably guess what she looks like. (Why are there no witch/mage hats in Champions?! Seriously!) So once I get her leveled through the tutorial, I might have her replace my Soldier in the NPF superteam (although now that he's more leveled up, he has become surprisingly badass for someone with no actual superpowers. I kinda like him now).

We don't really have any sort of strategic "team" thing going-- so far we have a Behemoth (Toasty), a Mind and a Marksman (Arc), an Inferno (Shyria), a Soldier and Grimoire (me), and a Glacier (Ramary). So I think that's one of everything? So just make whichever class appeals most to you. We're basically in it mostly for the lolz. And the dance parties.

From what I can tell, it is free to set up a super group. The only problem is that you need 5 people in a team to be able to make one, so we'd have to do it when there was quite a few of us on.

Unless something has changed, perks of a supergroup seem to be an additional costume slot, a shared bank, and I believe a supergroup chat channel.

Apparently a lot of people are having this problem (source: the Steam User Forums) and they all speculate it's because of the f2p surge. Item servers haven't been working either, at least for me. I'd say try it at a more off-peak time, if you can.

Got it for PS3 forever ago, did a solo playthrough as Soldier. Besides the fact that it takes an assload of time to play through all 4 classes, I didn't like the pacing of the game (even when you get the fast travel it's a shitload of walking/driving) or the constant harassment of respawning enemies. It'd be fun to try the other classes though.

Admittedly, the DLC's were fun. I would take advantage of the sale if I wasn't saving my money (and for those of you who would rather open three TF2 crates instead of buying this game, shame on you).

Since my desktop gets less use than the chirstmas tree, I'm thinking about using it as a TF2 server for our NPF weekend nights. Now, the PC is in my room so, I won't be able to leave the PC permanently on because

We can't make a superteam ( read: guild ) because it can only be made by people who've paid for something in the store or have gone through 20 hours of gameplay or have gone through an event that no longer happens.

To keep bots and gold farmers from starting/entering guilds, I guess? And from our own experiments, it would appear that the free tokens you get from beating the tutorial don't count.

Mine and 2 other of the accounts, while all silver, had bought c-store product, negating the 'New Account'

This leads me to believe making a C-Store purchase (even for just 80 tokens) will be enough to make a group. You can buy an action figure thing, or a 4-pack of healing items, or an emblem pack for 80 tokens (I already got the 4 healing items). If people don't care about dumping their 80 tokens into something, we can try to make the super group again tomorrow.

I don't play Rift but I might have some Heavy stuff if you want it. I don't play Heavy much, other than for boxing matches, so I don't really use anything of his other than the Sandvich and the KGB. I don't have a lot, and definitely nothing new, (drop rate hates me) but I'm pretty sure I have a chocolate bar, at least. Still gotta go check my inventory.

I know some of you guys play Spiral Knights- is this achieveable with a free account, and is it particularly difficult? I've not installed Spiral Knights but between that and the TF2 hat I might be convinced :D

Well, the bombs are 3000 crowns and I have 200, sooo I guess I will need it at some point :P The achievement seems to have vanished from the store page though. Dunno if it'll come back or not, there was a similar incident with a Counterstirke achievement that disappeared.

I'm really liking the music in Spiral Knights though!

I can make the bombs as long as you can cover the materials and crowns. If possibly, energy too please but, since I'm using mist energy, everything should be fine as long as I don't run out.

I think I'll have the TF2 server ready to run a test in about an hour. Will it be ready to play? Not really, I gotta test it first and stuff.

But, if everything goes well, we should get a private TF2 server tonight :dance:

We got the super group formed in Champions Online. Buying something from the C-Store (even just a measly 80 point knickknack, huzzah for free points from the tutorial) convinces the game you're not just spam bot and therefore allowed to make a super group or something.

I think you can only invite someone to the group if they're online at the time (or maybe you can put in a specific character name, I didn't try that) but we have 5 leaders (the Founding Five) and an "officer." I say "officer" because we can change the names of the ranks at will, and Aldurin has earned the rank of Snarf after losing to Shyria in a duel.

Once we have enough members we can start a power struggle between the leaders and cause a civil war within the group. Those will be good times.

I believe she tried to make a more dragonish costume today, but a goodly portion of the costume parts she wanted to use were ones you had to pay for.
