So I was finally able to play the Halloween Map for a few minutes this morning. Love the new character and Mann Ghost audio, love the comic and the concept. My thoughts thus far:

PROS:
-Reskinned payload carts are goofy fun.

-Love hearing Redmond and Blutarch heckling you and each other throughout the game.

-Gift drops seem more frequent than usual, but that might've just been the server I was on. I played for about an hour and got three personal gift drops. (I missed the first because DUMB, I got Sniper's owl head the next time and Undead Archimedes after that.) I mean, it makes sense since youcan only wear the items one week of the year plus full moons that you get a higher drop rate I guess.

-The end-of-round hell-battle was updated quite nicely. I like how dead players can now hover around as ghosts and pester the living with a deafening chorus of BOOO's.

-Spells add an interesting new gameplay element to the mix in the stead of the usual Boss Character. They're a little difficult to get used to at first, but it's fun seeing what they do. It's a bit like a Roll The Dice server.

-Bombinomicon has a price tag on its back cover for $6.66. I don't know if he's always had this but I find it hilarious.

CONS:
-There really doesn't seem to be a point to getting to Skull Islandafter you do it once. You get the book and that's it.

-The map is a reskin of pl_hightower and that's it. It's Hightower with a few pumpkins and the Witching Hour island with Zepheniah Mann and a refrigerator hovering in the background. A little disappointing in that regard.

-It doesn't matter who gets the payload to the finish line first.The victor is decided in the post-payload deathmatch regardless of who got the cart up first.

-Some graphical bugs on the cart reskin-- Redmond and Blutarch still have the payload cart's flashing light effect coming out of their hats for no reason.

-EDIT: Nope, they DO have a Skeleton King. The server I first played on was glitching out. This Con removed!

-Pyro's new voice actor, or at least his new lines, sounds noticeably different.

I love the fact that the community-made Halloween costumes, which are only functional for maaaybe a week and a half out of the whole year, have individual character audio to go with them. Sniper Owls chat about the fact that they are now Sniper Owls. Medic Doves wax poetic about the virtue of being all-powerful Medic Doves. Undead Archimedes complains to Medic when he gets set on fire. These are community-made, temporary reskins. And Valve went to the trouble of pulling the original voice actors (except Pyro?? Unless they just messed up the post-production stuff?) and paying them to record new lines. Valve, I love you. Hire me and let me join in your madness.

So Dota 2 is getting a pretty awesome update. (http://www.dota2.com/threespirits)

The reason I'm posting this here is because they are adding a coaching feature, where you party up with someone (or multiple people if you want more people coaching you at once) and they opt in to being your coach before searching for a game. They will then see everything you see (including mouse movements) and they can draw on the map and ground (which only you can see), ping areas, and even ping parts of your HUD. You also get your own private text and voice chat channels in-game, if you don't want to rely on third party voice chat.

The update should be going live tomorrow (as long as it doesn't blow up the test client today), so if anyone has been wanting to give Dota 2 a try but was turned off by the ridiculous learning curve, this weekend is a good time to hop into it. If you want to give the coaching thing a try, post here or send me a PM or message me on Steam and as long as my internet isn't trying to commit suicide (which it has been doing more often lately :( ) I'll do my best to help you be not terrible (which is pretty damn good in dota).

It's a sad that when I've realized that I've beaten all the games in my library. I best Bioshock Infinite (though I'm taking a hard look at that dlc), Borderlands 2 including the Tiny Tina dlc (though still some small side quests), Arkham Origins (also some side quests left, but damn if that game isn't buggy). I've logged hours and hours on Skyrim....I'm bored!!!

Oh ho, but that's where you're (sorta) wrong! SG uses the GGPO rollback netcode which allows players to set frame delay to mask the appearance of lag even across vast distances while avoiding dropped inputs. It's the next best thing to local multiplayer for fighting games.

from what i remember, since it was all a bit improvised among us there was a little lack of feedback for all the exchanges. So we had people revealing who their secret Santa was, others keeping it a secret and some were just talkig over steam and not in the forums.

But overall i had fun "shopping" for games for others and getting a surprise one for myself (Hotline Miami if i'm not mistaken!), and with a sale coming up, timing seems very nice.

I'm with Bells on this, with the set up and gift exchange having gone of smoothly and being pretty awesome, but the aftermath of talking about what you got or people revealing who they were Santa for was what fell flat.

The most depressing thing about JC2MP is that you are struck with the harsh reality of how many people never played JC2 before the multiplayer release. Though it's definitely fun as hell for the giant sandbox free-for-all.
